Publisher's summary

Lawyer Andy Carpenter is surprised when Willie Millier, Andy's partner at their dog rescue operation, the Tara Foundation, calls to say the alarm has gone off at the foundation building. There has clearly been a break-in, and a dog has been stolen.

All of the dogs that the Tara Foundation rescues are given collars with GPS tracking capabilities, so Andy and Willie know they'll be able to track down the missing dog. They follow the signal to a house in downtown Paterson, and sure enough, the dog is there...standing right next to a dead body. The man had been gruesomely murdered mere minutes earlier. Could it be a coincidence? Or could the dog theft somehow be connected to the killing?

Andy takes the dog safely back to the foundation building, and that should be the end of it, but his curiosity - and his desire to keep the dog from further harm - won't let him stop there. Andy finds himself looking into the circumstances surrounding the break-in and the dog theft, and what he starts to uncover makes him believe that the cops may have just arrested the wrong man for the crime.

Once again David Rosenfelt has written a fast-paced and clever mystery with his characteristic blend of humor, larger-than-life characters, and propulsive plotting.

Too Many Stores of the Same Ilk

David Rosenfelt has a good thing going -- using the same basic format for every story. That however, is the downfall for me. I wont need to read anymore of his books. . . the sameness just destroys any interest I might have had for the drama and characters. This one was just a middling, average story that wasn't all that engaging. Offer something different and I might buy it -- but not until.

Entertaining and Funny

I love who-done-it's that fit in humor and this one did it well. And how can you go wrong with an obnoxious leading player who's a rich attorney who loves dogs, owns an animal shelter and adopts an 8 year old boy? A great audio book for sure.

Loved it!

I have listened to the whole series, and this was a welcomed addition. David Rosenfelt has done another great job of keeping all our favorite characters alive and fresh! His wonderful imagination keeps new stories coming. Grover Gardener "is" the voice of all the characters in all the books. Another narrator would not be able to pull it off. David & Grover keep them coming & I'll keep on listening! I highly recommend this book and the entire series to anyone who enjoys light mysteries.

ROSENFELT HITS ANOTHER HOME RUN!!!

I'm going to keep this short..... I've had the pleasure to listen to all of the books in this series. If you love a well-crafted murder mystery AND/OR dogs, David Rosenfelt consistently delivers. I have never EVER figured out who did the crimes in any of these books until the reveal. The very like able main character, attorney Andy Carpenter, always provides his courtroom scenes with an intimate knowledge of both the law and legal procedure. Narrator Grover Gardner is perfect for the author's humorous sarcastic tongue-in-cheek style. His "Every Man" delivery is reminiscent of Richie Cunningham in "Happy Days". Imagine "The Lincoln Lawyer" starring Ron Howard! 😄👍🏽

This series is like "Candy" for me

I love this series...
My genre is mystery, with court room legal thrillers at the top of my list. Andy Carpenter is a mix of humor, mystery, court room drama, with the fun of his sense of humor. I always look forward to the next one. I have all of the books in this series. The characters are well developed and I love them all. Total entertainment for me.

A winning combination

I rarely enjoy an author and narrator so much that I wait breathlessly for his books about Andy Carpenter. GroverGardner makes the authors words amazingly wonderful I find that I wish everyone who need a lot of happy chuckles could enjoy this wonderful pair as I have.

Andy, ever the comedian

What about Grover Gardner’s performance did you like?

Grover Gardner IS the voice of Andy Carpenter. Andy is always making comments about life and his desires with great humor. The silliness is wonderful because the comments are so truthful and authentic. Andy doesn't keep one guessing about his wants, needs or desires; he just says it like it is. I love these books and I can't imagine Andy without Grover.

Its an another WOW!

Andy Carpenter books can be only compared to Andy Carpenter books. The stuff that David Rosenfelt writes, makes you smile, laugh and smile and laugh all within an intriguing mystery and the law system. And Marcus. If you do not know about Marcus you should just download this book to find out about him. Crazy hilarious characters.
Compared to other Andy Carpenter books this is 3 stars. But that is 5 stars when compared to any other book.

always enjoyable but getting a little predictable

I always enjoy the Andy Carpenter series. I love the humor and sarcasm that the author puts into these books. I do enjoy Grover Cleveland as the narrator, he makes the characters come to life.
