Publisher's summary

The police don't show up on Easy Rawlins's doorstep until the third girl dies. It's Los Angeles, 1956, and it takes more than one murdered black girl before the cops get interested. Now they need Easy. As he says: "I was worth a precinct full of detectives when the cops needed the word in the ghetto." But Easy turns them down. He's married now, a father -- and his detective days are over. Then a white college coed dies the same brutal death, and the cops put the heat on Easy: If he doesn't help, his best friend is headed for jail. So Easy's back, walking the midnight streets of Watts and the darker, twisted avenues of a cunning killer's mind....

White Butterfly

Yet again, Walter Moseley doesn’t disappoint! Great story, and I love the narrator, wish he could narrate all of the books in my library.

A Easy Rowlins As Always

The story was easy to follow, the wife was feisty and funny lol. The plot twist was nice and a good way to end the story.

A Magnificent Work

Reading this novel, one can't help but wonder where it will lead... And once again, Walter Mosley does not disappoint. He does an amazing job with the crafting of this novel all the way to the end, which is bravo-worthy.
And as always,Michael Boatman is stellar as the narrator.

Loved It!

Love Walter Mosley, and Michael Boatman is perfect, just perfect as Rawlins. I am going to begin the next book tomorrow.

Mosley understands the souls of black people and the heartbeat of the era...Very evocatve. The words tugged on my sense memory and made me a little sad. The times were tough for black folk, and i think there was a sad yearning in every black soul.

Not as elaborate as the other tales in the series

This narrator is absolutely the best. this is not the strongest story so far. A lot of build up and details that didn't seem necessary once we got to the end. Some of the other EZ tales are much more elaborate. Still cute. Moving on to the next in the series.

Great Characters, Great Narrator

After now, reading the third of the Easy Rawlins books, I’ve become very fond of the characters. Mosely has a real gift in describing the quirks and personalities of such a variety of people. And the narrator’s interpretation is just perfect. The one glitch for me is how, the author continually sexualizes so many of the women in his books. Maybe it’s his fantasy but I think he could dial that back.
