Mary Higgings Clark does it again. I love all her books, but can't stand this narrator. I almost stopped listening to it and bought the book to read myself. She absolutely drove me crazy, I will never buy another book she narrates, no matter who the author is.
I have always liked Mary Higgins Clark's books and now even more that I can follow along by audio. Unfortunately, I agree with the other review that the young woman reading makes it hard to concentrate. She sounds like she is eating something while she is reading.
This one was too much to be believable....story line was not realistic for an author of the caliber of MHC.
I listened to it more because there was nothing else available.
I truly did not care for the Elvira character in this book or others.
Just not for me.
I would have rated this book 5***** had it not been for the narrator. Others mentioned the "smacking" sounds and honestly, it really bothered me. I couldn't wait to finish it and because it was interesting and a great mystery, I DID finish listening to completion but otherwise I would definitely have not. I can't figure out HOW she made so many odd "mouth noises".... whoa!! I didn't think it would bother me so even though I'd read the other reviews with similar remarks, I thought "that won't bother me", WILL IT DID!! BIG TIME!!
If you think you can get by the mouth sounds, buy it, it's a very good mystery.
I love Mary Higgins Clark stories. She can write a great mystery and not have sexual content in them.
The narrator's voice was very distracting and really took away from the story. I do not want to spend money to hear someone swallowing their saliva. It really sounded as if she had a thick mouth and needed a drink of water - horrible.
