Publisher's Summary

The highway from Los Angeles to the Palm Springs desert is parched, unforgiving, and deadly. In the suffocating stillness of a car trunk, a man, his mouth and hands bound with duct tape, awaits his fate. What possible enemy could be bitter enough to commit such a heinous crime? And when will the monster make another move?

Ali Reynolds is traveling that same blistering, lonesome highway, looking forward to putting her past behind her. But her cheating husband is in a hurry for a divorce, and the television network that wrongfully dismissed her for the sole sin of being over 40 will face her in court as well.

As she passes the site of a horrifying accident, Ali is grateful that it's no longer her job to report the news, until she finds out that the news is her own: the victim is Ali's cheating husband. And soon she'll find herself the prime suspect at the center of a terrifying web of evil.

A twisted and lethal drama of heart-pounding suspense, Web of Evil asks the question: If hell hath no fury like a woman scorned, just what punishment could that fury unleash?

All mysteries all the time, that's what I read. I joined Audible when I started having a long commute. Now I listen everywhere!

    "Disappointed in you, Judy!"

I've read almost all of Judy Jance's books, and I am sad to say that I wish I had given this one a miss. The dialogue left a lot to be desired, seemed quite juvenile in some places. I found it annoying that she had her heroine--a former newscaster--telling her friend, a homicide detective and retired Marine, how to go about investigating as well as micro-managing him. That is, when she wasn't completely ignoring his sound advice and getting herself into trouble. Yeesh, give me a break. It's so disappointing when one's favorite authors put their names to fare such as this.

    "Simply Awful"

I've listened to all of J.A. Jances books, and this one is simply awful. Where in the world did those characters come from? The characters are not believeable, and the plot is childish and silly. That whole 'blog' thing was past awful. Don't waste your money on this listen.

    "Dreadful"

This book was boring and predictable. The characters had no depth. The main character was simply unbelievable - that is, I didn't believe that anyone would act or talk this way. The whole blog thing was pathetic. Don't waste your money or a credit on this one.

    "not her best"

Jance books are always a good listen and so is Web of Evil. Compared to her other books, however, the plotting is weak and the lead character's actions sometimes lacking in credibility.

I agree with the other posted reviews -- this was not J.A. Jance's best effort!

    "Exciting series-Jance at her best"

Book 2 in the Alli Reynolds series kept my interest as well as the first book. I can tell I'm going to enjoy this series, based in Sedona, AZ, though much of 'Web of Evil' takes place in Los Angeles.

The trials and tribulations of Ms Reynolds do get a bit dramatic but anyone who has dealt with the LAPD knows that "Innocent until proven guilty" doesn't hold much sway there.

Enjoyable, exciting and with an occasionally confusing story arc, I did enjoy listening to this novel and intend to purchase the 3rd and 4th in the series.

If you like dramatic storytelling this is a good series to start on a cold winters night!

    "Repetition breeds contempt."
    Any additional comments?

An hour into this story and every character and action of the last story is being retold. This isn't just boring and irritating, it says to me that the author - or editor - doesn't trust her story to stand alone.
It is my experience that if an author is good, I'll find previous books to help me understand something I want to know.

    "Well Worth Listening"
Where does Web of Evil rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Not among the very best, but far from the less appreciated. In my opinion it is well worth listening.

Would you recommend Web of Evil to your friends? Why or why not?

No reason why not recommend it.

What does Karen Ziemba bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

She did her job, thought it took some time to get confortable with her but after that it went very well.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

    No, not really

    Any additional comments?

It was only my second J.A. Jance story and I'm sure thet there will be many further.

    "Annoying"
    Any additional comments?

As a J.A. Jance fan, I have been disappointed with the Ali Reynolds books. I didn't listen to the first few books so thought I would go back and listen to them before I buy "Clawback". I wish I hadn't bothered. I was continually annoyed with Ali. She seemed to think that she knew better than her attorney, the police, everyone and because of that, was always putting herself and others in danger. I was anxious for the book to end. I would skip this one!
