A cold case reopened - and a murderer reemerging more deadly than ever before
Baltimore homicide detective Stevie Mazzetti has suffered losses no woman should have to endure. And, despite it all, she's still a fighter. When she learns that her ex-partner might have miscarried justice, she's determined to put the past to rights, even when she becomes a target.
It's former marine Clay Maynard's job to see the risk in every situation, and he doesn't have to look hard to find the danger surrounding Stevie. Since the minute he first saw her, Clay has wanted toprotect the wounded officer, and he started loving her not long after that. So when Stevie attracts the attention of a vicious psychopath, Clay will do whatever it takes to keep her alive. That is, if he can stay ahead of a killer with everything to lose - and something terrifying to hide.

This one is right up there with all of Karen Rose's other books.
Karen Rose writes mystery/thrillers with a little bit of romance. I am almost always on the edge of my seat as there are usually quite a few homocides and you're never sure who's going to get shot, murdered or slashed before someone's rage comes to an end.
I highly recommend this new book. If you are already a Karen Rose fan then you will not be disappointed. I think this one is better then her last.. If you've never heard any of her books it's nice to listen in order however each one can be read/listened to as a stand alone. Her books are great an certainly worth a credit.
Listen mostly to urban fantasy and suspense/thrillers but also enjoy mysteries, sci-fi, fantasy, romance, adventure, classic, modern, spiritual or general literature. And I always like a bit of romance in any of my stories.
A solid book with a well paced story, strong characters, good suspense, and a heated romance. My only real complaint was that I struggled a bit with the motivation for the villain. It just seemed like he kept at it to the point that he was calling attention to himself, which was the exact thing he was trying to stop. Finally decided to just go with it but don't usually have that problem with Ms Rose's books. I'm a huge fan of Marguerite Gavin so if you've enjoyed her performances in the past you won't be disappointed with this one. If you don't care for her style you probably won't care for this either.
The narrator ruined this for me. At times she seemed to go so fast I felt like I was listening to the Chipmunks. Her men's voices all sounded like John Wayne and were drawled out. I kept waiting for a sentence to end in "little lady" John Wayne style. The child in the book often sounded mentally challenged or slow.
The story was pretty good although I just finished another book by this author and saw a cookie cutter pattern in the main characters.
I loved this book. It was complicated and held my interest every step of the way. The hero and heroine are likeable and engaging. You root for the hero as he supports the heroine while she grieves huge loses in her life. He waits years. He helps her face multiple personal threats to herself and her daughter.
Supporting characters are many and appealing or appalling depending on their role. The villains are many and especially dastardly. They make the obstacles that the good guys overcome formidable.
This was a good, well written book.
narrator can't do cordelia's voice, she sounded like an old lady
Heroine has too much angst, she's not a likable character.
