A cold case reopened - and a murderer reemerging more deadly than ever before
Baltimore homicide detective Stevie Mazzetti has suffered losses no woman should have to endure. And, despite it all, she's still a fighter. When she learns that her ex-partner might have miscarried justice, she's determined to put the past to rights, even when she becomes a target.
It's former marine Clay Maynard's job to see the risk in every situation, and he doesn't have to look hard to find the danger surrounding Stevie. Since the minute he first saw her, Clay has wanted toprotect the wounded officer, and he started loving her not long after that. So when Stevie attracts the attention of a vicious psychopath, Clay will do whatever it takes to keep her alive. That is, if he can stay ahead of a killer with everything to lose - and something terrifying to hide.

This one is right up there with all of Karen Rose's other books.
Karen Rose writes mystery/thrillers with a little bit of romance. I am almost always on the edge of my seat as there are usually quite a few homocides and you're never sure who's going to get shot, murdered or slashed before someone's rage comes to an end.
I highly recommend this new book. If you are already a Karen Rose fan then you will not be disappointed. I think this one is better then her last.. If you've never heard any of her books it's nice to listen in order however each one can be read/listened to as a stand alone. Her books are great an certainly worth a credit.
narrator was great at differentiating each character in the story. it was extremely detailed and so intense. author made you feel like you were right there in every scene. kept you on your toes. addictive.
Listen mostly to urban fantasy and suspense/thrillers but also enjoy mysteries, sci-fi, fantasy, romance, adventure, classic, modern, spiritual or general literature. And I always like a bit of romance in any of my stories.
A solid book with a well paced story, strong characters, good suspense, and a heated romance. My only real complaint was that I struggled a bit with the motivation for the villain. It just seemed like he kept at it to the point that he was calling attention to himself, which was the exact thing he was trying to stop. Finally decided to just go with it but don't usually have that problem with Ms Rose's books. I'm a huge fan of Marguerite Gavin so if you've enjoyed her performances in the past you won't be disappointed with this one. If you don't care for her style you probably won't care for this either.
The narrator was amazing and the story was very unique and interesting other than when the author slipped into romance novel mode. I bought the book as a mystery/thriller and the romance between the characters was better developed than in other books so initially I didn't mind, but by mid-way into the book I had to fast forward through more graphic sex scenes than I can count and it took away from the overall sophistication of the story and narration. I listen to audiobooks at work and this one would have been really problematic if my headphones had cut out and it started playing when the male character's "cock" was being discussed for the umpteenth time or he was inserting something into the main character's "slit". Even when I fast forwarded to the next chapter it was still going on. If you are looking for some literary soft core porn within an excellent mystery, this book is for you.
This listening time was not well-spent. There are so many characters, I needed a score sheet. The intimate scenes were over described.
My next listen will not be something by Karen Rose. The story is good, in spite of the abundance of characters which I found confusing.
I think Marguerite Gavin is a very talented narrator.
My listening time could have been better spent.
I have listened to a couple of books lately that kept me listening and wide awake. I will look for more by those authors.
I admit, I'm not done with the book yet. It goes on and on and on and on . . . Too much plot covering the same thing over and over. And the body count! It strains the credulity. This author wants to be Elizabeth Lowell, but her characters are so frustrating. He wants her. She doesn't want him. She wants him. He doesn't want her. They constantly daydream about one another. I was so tired of the endless back and forth.
The performance saves this book for me. Marguerite Gavin was really great!
Suspense action packed fearless real acting characters. Can't wait to start the next book in the series. Very well thoroughly real life Law enforcers. I love how each books characters intertwined. Awesome.
The narrator ruined this for me. At times she seemed to go so fast I felt like I was listening to the Chipmunks. Her men's voices all sounded like John Wayne and were drawled out. I kept waiting for a sentence to end in "little lady" John Wayne style. The child in the book often sounded mentally challenged or slow.
The story was pretty good although I just finished another book by this author and saw a cookie cutter pattern in the main characters.
