Publisher's summary

In L.A., Cassie Black is another beautiful woman in a Porsche: except Cassie just did six years in prison and still has "outlaw juice" flowing in her veins. Now Cassie is returning to her old profession, taking down a money man in Vegas. But the perfect heist goes very wrong, and suddenly Cassie is on the run - with a near-psychotic Vegas "fixer" killing everyone who knew about the job.

Between Cassie and the man hunting her are a few last secrets: like who really set up the job, why Cassie had to take the chance, and how, in the end, it might all be a matter of the moon....

An excellent book, well read

I listen to different books, some with interesting twisting plots, others just for an easy, enjoyable listen. I would put this book smack in the middle of that. It has an excellent plot with interesting characters. But while it is certainly an easy listen, I thought it was better than most other books of this genre. I enjoyed it and it has caused me to seek out more Michael Connelly books -- now I'm listening to the Harry Bosch books. So I highly recommend it to those who have listened to Baldacci, Berendson, or DeMille. It may be a bit more straightforward, but it is a good read (listen).

Tedious and Boring To Read

The story had potential but the writing was a let down which is unexpected for a Connelly book. None of the characters were likeable, not even the protagonist. Close to the end Connelly tries to throw a twist into the story, but it is anti-climatic. It is an overly complicated way to have someone steal $2.5M.

I think I'm being generous with three stars. The last 1/5 of the book had action and was more interesting, but overall the book was not suspenseful or engaging. The narrator didn't help much. I had to speed up the pace 3 times and I'm from the south who is accustomed to slow speakers.

Bottom line is if you are desperate for a Connelly book, this should probably be one of your last picks.

Not Bosch, but good!

Although recently released on audio, this book was originally published around 2000. Much of the book takes place in Las Vegas, with a blend of real and fictional references. Having read all of Connelly's Bosch books, I found this a refreshing change. It was more current, and the characters embrace technology rather than fight against it. Good twists and turns, a classic heist story. If you liked the movie Ocean's 11 you will like this.

A Perfect Book For A Long Drive.

Beautifully crafted, I came back to this after having read it, twice, some years ago. The narrative is tight; each part leads to the next. The flashbacks are deftly placed and fit well as each card is revealed. The heroine prevails, despite seemingly impossible odds. The solutions are brilliant, not contrived. Perhaps a few too many loose ends are tied up at the end, but the listener can be forgiving because the ride along the way has been so good. A perfect audio book for a long drive.

Enjoyed it

It took me a little while to get into the book, quite slow to begin with, lots of background on the characters. The finish line was full of action and I felt that the narrator finally found his flow. All in all a good story.
