Montalbano does not disappoint, bringing his compelling mix of humor, cynicism, compassion, and love of good food to solve another riveting mystery.

"Camilleri is as crafty and charming a writer as his protagonist is an investigator." (Washington Post)
I thought the first three books in the series were good but this fourth one is the best yet.
Montalbano's character is developing nicely with each new story. The plots get better and faster paced.
The only criticism I can offer is that the voice of Catarella is strangely (New) Jersey accented, I suppose for the benefit of the American audience (of which I am one). It does get the idea across but is a bit discordant. A small annoyance. I hope it changes in future installments.
I'd like to give the author the benefit of the doubt. Perhaps this is a much better novel in the original Italian. The characters are flat and unsympathetic. The plot is implausible and silly. In short, skip it.
Gucci of mysteries.…Ferrari performance and pace…listen to this book......you'll love it.
Made me go to the mapping function on my phone to view the geography of Sicily.

Translation of a novel written in Italian. Translator does a nice job of putting it in idiomatic English. Some of the cultural issues, will take some knowledge of Italian culture and society. All in all still an entertaining novel.
The story had engaging characters and great atmosphere. Prepare to get very hungry when you hear the vivid descriptions of the food! I rather liked the scruffy, recalcitrant inspector and I loved the convoluted politics of the Italian police force. The mystery itself was rather banal. And devoid of surprises. I also didn't care for the narrator's choppy style.
