"another great entry in the Falco series"

I highly recommend Anton Lesser as Falco. The books are excellent and he sounds just the way I picture Falco. The BBC broadcasts of these books were the first things I bought when I joined Audible.com and I go back to them constantly for the pure enjoy of relistening to them all.

"Abridged is only part of the story."

I think I like the book, but since I haven't read the whole thing, how can I tell? I always feel cheated with abridgments. OK, I miss Christian Rodska's reading too. The story seems pretty good, but I don't know what's missing that would probably make it even better. In other Falco books I can't imagine not having the whole story there. I think you'll enjoy what's here, but find a way to get the whole story.

    "Sparkling dramatisation"

Anton Lesser is an extremey plausible Falco and the other cast members add to a very satisfying dramatisation of the novel. Easier to follow than some of these adaptations, the parallels with modern living are made lightly and the story races along.

    "laughed 'till we cried"
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Anton Lesser sounds just like the Falco in my mind. Having read all the Falco novels I was more than a little wary of an 'adaptation' but to be honest we didn't have time to worry about a dramatised version because the laughs flowed thick and fast. If you know Falco this will not disappoint you and if you haven't met him yet this is a lovely introduction. Thoroughly recommended.

Who was your favorite character and why?

surprisingly Helena was really nice in this version, sometimes in the books she can be a bit boring.

Have you listened to any of Anton Lesser and Anna Madeley ’s other performances? How does this one compare?

This is as good as Shadows in Bronze. Falco is growing up but his happy go luck approach to life is just as infectious.

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Funniest thing since the last Falco

    Any additional comments?

    listen to this!

    "Reliably entertaining"
What did you like most about Venus In Copper?

Good storyline and narration - keeps you hooked and keen to "just listen a bit longer" (until I had finished the entire book in one sitting!)

What other book might you compare Venus In Copper to, and why?

Of course, other books in the series, and perhaps it also sits halfway between an Agatha Raison and John le Carre - quite a tight storyline with interesting facts and explanations (unlike the slightness of Agatha Raison), but (unlike Carre) it is done with a lightness and humour that makes it very engaging.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

    Yes

"Domestic Strife and Murder in Ancient Rome"

Lindsey Davis is a superb writer who has developed three-dimensional characters in all of her novels.

The narration is in keeping with the original books and helps to bring Ancient Rome to life. Even if you do not normally enjoy historical whodunnits, this is worth a listen because Davis mixes drama and humour in equal measure.

"A fantastic dramatisation of a great read"

This audio dramatisation of Venus in Copper is first class; the characters are richly portrayed, the plot twists preserved and the humour, love and complexity of the relationship between Helena and Falco touchingly acted.

You don't have to start at this beginning of the series to appreciate the story either; characters and situations are introduced in a way that makes it accessible without having to be familiar with the previous stories.
