Publisher's summary

Obsession can be deadly. That's what Dom Stewart discovers when his buddy, Phil, goes missing. Dom has long coveted Robin, Phil's beautiful wife...is it time for him to step in? Detective Luca is also dazzled by Robin - even while acknowledging she may be involved in Phil's disappearance. Luca struggles with his heart as the investigation reveals the case is about much more than a missing man. Something dark and disturbing is behind the scenes. Is there a murder here?

As fraud and romantic interests verging on pathological fixation emerge, the question remains: What happened to Phil?

Great choice!

If you like noir crime stories, in the line of Raymon Chandler, this is definitively a book for you.

Full of suspense, with a great plot and interesting characters, particularly both, Frank Luca, the protagonist and Dominick Stewart, the antagonist, this is a story that will keep you interested until the very end.

I find particularly interesting how the investigation is more about hard work and perseverance than about brilliant leaps of insight.

And the narrator, Andrew Start is a great choice. His reading adds meaning and nuance to the story. Excellent work!

Good mystery

I do not read a lot of mystery stories, but this is one of the better ones I've listened to. Interesting main character. I do recommend this book. I received the Audible version, and here is the obligatory: This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.

this book was ok

This was just ok the characters were lacking personalities, the story line failed to hold my attention, and narrator was boring. I had a really hard time finishing this book especially at the end there was far too much back to back I said, she said, he said following a different character talking. I think in written format it would not have been an issue at all but as a audio book I kept asking myself wait who said that? This book had the potential to be really great but just fell short for me. I received this book for free for an honest review.

Intriguing to the very end

I loved the way the author fed little bits of information on each character into the story. Just enough humor here and there.....but not taking anything away from the seriousness of the story. I love Luca’s character and ordered book 3 already. Very well written and very well researched.

Had Me On My Toes

The author had me on my toes, wanting more. Once I started listening to this book, I simply could not stop. There was just enough suspense to keep you wanting more. I love the way the narrator portrays each of the characters and I feel does an excellent job of getting across exactly what the author is looking for. This book is a 5 Star, in my world!

Problems of a Detective

Detective Luca tries to solve a missing person case while managing his own health problems. The missing person's wife and his best friend are the most likely suspects. Andrew Start gives life to the characters in his narration of Vanished. A swiftly moving mystery that will draw you in until the amazing conclusion.

Vanished or Dead

Det. Luca is brought in on a missing person case. The missing man, his wife, and best friend are all players. None of the three are faithful or honest. During the investigation Luca is slowed down with a cancer diagnosis and surgery. Characters with naughty thoughts and snappy dialogue keep this story fresh. I was gifted this from Audiobookworm for my honest review.

okay

even though it's clear from the beginning who the villain is, it was still interesting to see things from their perspective.
the narrator was okay, but the fact that it was one narrator for two male POVs, without changing the tone or giving each character their own vocal characterization made it a little difficult to remember which POV I was listening at each chapter.
