Publisher's summary

There's always one more grave to dig.

Lately, life has been unnaturally calm for vampires Cat Crawfield and her husband, Bones. They should have known better than to relax their guard, because a shocking revelation sends them back into action to stop an all-out war.…

A rogue CIA agent is involved in horrifying secret activities that threaten to raise tensions between humans and the undead to dangerous heights. Now Cat and Bones are in a race against time to save their friends from a fate worse than death…because the more secrets they unravel, the deadlier the consequences. And if they fail, their lives - and those of everyone they hold dear - will be hovering on the edge of the grave.

Great book but the voice for Bones is slightly off

Would you listen to Up from the Grave again? Why?

Yes, this entire series was great, the story shifted and stayed interesting. The story was sexy, action packed, and I couldn't get enough.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Most definitely.

Any additional comments?

I was disappointed that Bones' accent was slightly different in this book...in the previous books and this one was slightly off, similar to Ian which threw me off completely. It just didn't come off as the same Bones I've come to love. :(

This is about the whole series!

Any additional comments?

If you enjoy vampires... a strong heroine... Great characters ... and an amazing style of writing you will LOVE this series! Cat and Bones are the best couple ever. The series is funny, exiting, sexy, with well developed characters and just plain creative. From the first book to the last book it was never a dull moment. And yes some of the books were a little better then others but ALL of the books in the series were GREAT! And don't get me started on the narrator... WONDERFUL!! Made the series that much better. So, basically Great style of writing + Awesome narrator = Amazing Series..;o)!! Read it! Enjoy it! And thank me later!

This wraps it all up - I think

Cat and Bones face off against Madigan, the new director of the Government Agency formerly led by Cat's Uncle Don, who is now a ghost. Madigan is doing genetic research and transformations in his underground lab. He has captured Tate, Cooper, Dave and Juan and is using them in his tests. At the lab there is also a little girl with super killing powers who had been genetically engineered. Madigan's accomplice is revealed and he is formidable indeed. Marie the Ghoul queen gets involved in the story. The identity of the little girl from the lab is revealed - quite a surprise. All the characters from the previous books are in this story.

Good story expertly read by Tavia Gilbert who brings every characters to life with their own special voices.

Seriously good end to a fun run!

Tavia Gilbert is an AWESOME narrator. Her delivery was just spot on all the way through. Kudos to her and the producers. I really enjoyed the story. My only critics would be that any foreshadowing - I'd think, this will happen next- and it did. So not sure if I became suddenly clairvoyant or the hinting was too much and the book was not as twisty/turny as her usuals. The Tate dynamic at the end was a little weird. Otherwise this was a rocking good listen and so glad that if this is the end, then it ended on such a good strong note!

The Gangs All Here

I really enjoyed that all the regular cast of characters (& some are more 'character' than others) were all present for parts of this book. Seeing all the varied strengths, powers & weaknesses of all of them together makes you feel like there is truly nothing they cannot do as a team.

It is also fun to get timeline perspective when events from the spin off series' are mentioned & participated in during this book. Just in case you haven't read them, the spin offs are as good as the original series.

I will continue to re-listen to all the books about Cat & Bones and the 'scooby gang' (human, vampire, ghoul, ghost, deacon, and other) for many, many years to come.

Thank you Jeanienne Frost for characters that are strong but human, are serious but sarcastic, and are memorable. And to Tavia Gilbert for giving these characters a voice and personality.

I really, really hope that Ian is next to have a book or more. He is such a scoundrel with a soft heart (shhhh... don't tell him the last part).

SO SAD THIS SERIES IS OVER!

MY FAVORITE SERIES EVER! I am really going to miss Cat and Bones, but there could not be a better ending to their story than what Mrs. Frost has given them. I love all of the Night Huntress books, but the best was saved for last.
Thank you Jeaniene Frost for this beautiful series!
Thank you Tavia Gilbert for bringing these beloved characters to life!

A Stellar End to a Stellar Series

What did you love best about Up from the Grave?

I love Bones and Cat's relationship -- and I love how it has evolved.
They are my favorite book couple.

What other book might you compare Up from the Grave to and why?

Besides the other books is the series, I am reminded of Darynda Jone's Charlie Davidson series. Charlie and Reyes' relationship seems similar, plus the paranormal mystery/thriller element is similar as well. Although I would say Night Huntress is more of drama and the Charlie Davidson books are more of a comedy.

What about Tavia Gilbert’s performance did you like?

Tavia Gilbert is one of my favorite narrators. I particularly love her performance of Bones. She does a wonderful job assigning voices, inflections and pacing to each character, and remains highly consistenet from book to book. One gets the sense that Tavia "gets" the characters she's performing; she acts, she doesn't simply read.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I did tear up early in the book, when it seemed like something horrible had happened.

Any additional comments?

Of course this is the author's prerogative, but I did not like the inclusion of Tate in the story, particularly the ending. I'm choosing to believe he's not going to visit for very long.

The end turned

I can't say I find an instant maternal instinct very believable. I found the reactions insipid and truly distracting. Left me disliking the story.

Intense but Warning, "X rated love scenes"

Intense but Warning, "X rated love scenes" Engaging story line, really enjoyed, kept listening to to the whole series but the love scenes are over the top. Found fast forwarding helped, really enjoyed the stories but had to let me kids to be aware. I wish some of these had rating systems but addicted to the characters.

Happy Tears

If you could sum up Up from the Grave in three words, what would they be?

I can't. The world didn't stop spinning when the book was over, so I guess I'll be ok. Damn, this is my favorite series. I feel like I lost a friend. When is the next Vlad book coming out? I think I need and intervention... Help... If you didn't know, this is the last Kat & Bones book. If you haven't read them, you should. They are all awesome.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Up from the Grave?

When Bones & Tate silently agreed to cooperate for the common good of one person.

What does Tavia Gilbert bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

The voices of the characters that we have fallen in love with. She is the voice of Kat & Bones. It wouldn't be the same if someone else's voice narrated Bone's calling Kat "Kitten." Tavia Gilbert is amazing. One of the best narrators there is that is narrating books. I would probably enjoy listening to her narrate the Webster's Dictionary.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I cried for the last chapter of the book. I should have bought stock in Kleenex.

Any additional comments?

This series is so well written. It takes a typical vampire genre and spices it up. You wind up feeling like you know the characters by the end. I'm going to miss this series. Give it a try, I don't think you will be disappointed if you like urban/para romance.

P.S. I know there is one more Vlad book (a spinoff of this series) and I think we all want to see and Ian book. So don't worry, we aren't completely done quite yet.
