first time listening to audio book

while I prefer to read instead of hear... I have to say that this wasn't bad. I found myself just as interested and consumed in the story. can't wait for 14.

Great book

I enjoyed the drama and suspense of this book. The characters where fairly solid and the twists were interesting.

If you could sum up Unlucky 13 in three words, what would they be?

Friendship, loyalty, suspense. I could also say something like, drama, crime and murder.

What other book might you compare Unlucky 13 to and why?

I would compare this book to the previous 12 books in the same series, also by James Patterson and Maxine Paetro. It continues to follow the group of friends and they continue to find one or more of themselves in sure trouble.

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

The performance wasn't bad. I usually like January LaVoy. However, I do think that audio books that have several character should have more than one narrator. Women do not usually portray a male voice well. This isn't anything against January LaVoy, but if you can't do multiple voices well, just read the book!

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

There is a time when I am reading books in this series that I alway wish I had a group of BFF's like these ladies.

Any additional comments?

If you've read the first 12 books then certainly purchase this one. If you haven't read the first ones, you could read this as a stand alone book, but I recommend you start with book one and work your way up to this one. Part of what makes these books great is based on the closeness and unity of friendship and trust.

Not bad not good

Its small, but it really bothered me that after 12 books the main character suddenly has blue eyes instead of brown. The crimes and storylines were pretty intriguing but ended predictably, and Lindsay keeps getting more and more annoying with every book. Is she the worst cop ever written? She’s constantly described as the best but throughout this series she just seems to get lucky and not really figure anything out herself, and her inner dialogue is so insecure and boring that it overshadows other, better characters.

Loved this series but number 13 was numbing!

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

No, I thought this story was very contrived. I couldn't wait for it to end.

What do you think your next listen will be?

Anything by Michael Robotham.

Would you be willing to try another one of January LaVoy’s performances?

I don't think so. She made the characters sound like teenagers not serious women with major careers.

I didn't read the print version but the story was great.

One of the Better Murder Club Novels

Where does Unlucky 13 rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

At the top of The Murder Club Series. It was concise, relevant and constantly moving.

Who was your favorite character and why?

It is hard to pick a favorite character here because each woman is different and interacts well with the others.

Which character – as performed by January LaVoy – was your favorite?

Can't really say I had a favorite. The performance was spot-on.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I would if I could but that was not possible.

I am so sick of Alex Cross that this series is a pleasant relief.
