Rona Parish is asked to write a biography of reclusive artist Elspeth Wilding by her concerned sister. Ellie has seemingly disappeared, and the mystery surrounding her whereabouts has fueled a new interest in her work. As she begins gathering information, Rona discovers that Ellie's closest friend committed suicide, and Rona wonders whether Ellie, wracked by guilt over her friend's death, could have been driven to do likewise.

The voices that this narrator produces for the various characters ranges from weak to ludicrous. Her voices for the female characters are truly embarrassing and incredibly distracting--they almost have to be heard to be believed. Honestly, I kept thinking it will get better...but every new character has an even more ridiculous voice and inflection, it truly causes one to be so distracted that the story is ruined.
There are way too many references to prior books by the author, it makes the first few chapters awkward.
