Publisher's summary

Sam Acquillo, ex-boxer, ex-corporate executive, and accidental hero of The Last Refuge, can't seem to stay out of trouble. All he really wants to do is hammer a few nails into his ramshackle cottage, drink a great deal of vodka, and hang out with his dog, Eddie. But when a car bomb outside a trendy waterfront restaurant kills a prominent financial consultant, injuring Sam and his lawyer friend, he is drawn into the investigation. Where the police have met roadblocks, Sam makes inroads with his trademark wit, instinct, and charm. Set against the backdrop of Southampton, Long Island, Two Time is full of moody sunsets, beachfront properties, and beautiful people with an extraordinary amount of money and very dangerous secrets.

Critic reviews

"If Knopf is influenced by Dashiell Hammett and Elmore Leonard, he also shows affinity for lyrical prose." (The Independent)
"Strong plotting, solid characters and hard-boiled dialogue worthy of Elmore Leonard or John D. MacDonald." (Publishers Weekly)

There is a problem with this recording

Any additional comments?

The recording of the last chapter is flawed. There are glitches in the sound and the credits at the end are clearly a "first take". It seems to be a quality control issue.

Great Novelist continues with great work

I discovered Chris Knopf's work by accident as I was browsing through my old standby favorites and decided to give him a try. I was not disappointed and have now been collecting all of his novels. This story "Two Time" had rich characters and a great, clear and interesting story line, plus some humor. Get this one AND look for all his books.

Hope you have lots of time

There were so many times I just wanted to scream, "Oh get on with it." Talk about page fillers! Perfect candidate for abridged.

If I heard about his dam car or dog one more time ..............

Many reviewers disagree ... thank god for differences.

The overall Mystery idea was great ... finally.

Reader was not good with female voices.

Strong entry in the series but,

There is some time missing in the first part. It didn't seem to matter for the story to make sense though.....

Sam is coming around to be a little more normal, sort of, for him. The setting is still the Hamptons but not the showy part. The author really make the area come alive. This story is no less complicated than the first Sam mystery but in a totally different direction. Some of the story touches on the art world and I came away from the story with a new perspective on "modern" art. As always the engineering details are fascinating.

Meandering story

A pleasant performance, a few well-placed comments/writing every few minutes, but the story - oh my was it bad, worst in the series.

Freebie #2

Better than freebie #1 because it’s a little shorter. Still too much talk about nothing, I find myself dozing off and then not caring because I didn’t miss anything. Good story and easy to listen to.

Well conceived but definitely not very good in execution

Plot and characters are the product of a creative writer. My issue is the rambling asides thrown in that should be shortened or eliminated as some lack a clear line to the developing plot. Narrator definitely needs to work on who is speaking and when some conversation between characters is being interrupted while Sam is musing about something

Hmmmm...?

If you enjoy navel-gazing...and listening to folks who 'run-off at the mouth'...this one's for you.

Another winner

Great story by Mr. Knopf and brilliant narration by Mr. Rudnicki. Sam and his core cast of characters continue to develop in a complex, caring, and convincing way. This is a work of fiction and there are elements that stretch the bounds of reality but, never so much as to derail the story and certainly less than other authors working in the same genre.
There were some audio glitches at the very end that were annoying but only because they harshest the mellow of Stefan’s velvet delivery but took nothing away from the overall experience of this book.
