Publisher's summary

After his wife, Helen, is brazenly abducted before his eyes, Special Agent Pendergast furiously pursues the kidnappers, chasing them across the country and into Mexico. But then, things go terribly, tragically wrong; the kidnappers escape; and a shattered Pendergast retreats to his New York apartment and shuts out the world.

But when a string of bizarre murders erupts across several Manhattan hotels - perpetrated by a boy who seems to have an almost psychic ability to elude capture - NYPD Lieutenant D'Agosta asks his friend Pendergast for help. Reluctant at first, Pendergast soon discovers that the killings are a message from his wife's kidnappers. But why a message? And what does it mean?

When the kidnappers strike again at those closest to Pendergast, the FBI agent, filled anew with vengeful fury, sets out to track down and destroy those responsible. His journey takes him deep into the trackless forests of South America, where he ultimately finds himself face to face with an old evil that - rather than having been eradicated - is stirring anew... and with potentially world-altering consequences.

Confucius once said: "Before you embark on a journey of revenge, first dig two graves." Pendergast is about to learn the hard way just how true those words still ring.

the narrator

When I first began listening to the Pendergast series, Scott Brick was the narrator . I didn't make the transition easily when Mr Auberjonois became the voice of Pendergast. I even wrote a review stating that. I must apologize. I am thoroughly enjoying all of the stories and hope the team of Preston-Childs never stops writing about Pendergast.

My apologies, Mr. Auberjonois!!

Best Pendergast book yet.

Would you listen to Two Graves again? Why?

Yes, the plot is intricate and twisting. It was so complicated and I was so interested in finding out what would happen next. I am sure I missed things

What did you like best about this story?

Kept me on the edge of my seat. Couldn't put it down.

Terrible narration

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

The story line was okay, but the narration was very hard to tolerate. Rene Auberjonois came off as being a little too bombastic and the reading was too flowery for a tough guy role such as this one.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Too flowery.

Did Two Graves inspire you to do anything?

No.

Another great Preston, Child book

Amazing how Preston and Childs guides the reader in and out of 3 different stories without the reader getting lost. The stories all came together. I couldn’t stop listening. It was all good. Rene Auberjonois is such a great narrator.

I was a little miffed at how Cold Vengeance ended

Would you consider the audio edition of Two Graves to be better than the print version?

I have never read the print version but I do applaud the performance by the ever-talented Rene Auberjonois. His talents in this rendention is purely eloquent.

Who was your favorite character and why?

If I told my favorite character I would be giving away the story....but the last name is Pendergast and you will be so surprised when I don't say its Eloisius.

Have you listened to any of Rene Auberjonois’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

This performance was absolutely fascinating. His voice characterizations drew you into a brilliantly written story line. The first couple of chapters are slow but by the 20th chapter, Preston and Child's drops a story line on you so dramatic, I hope you will be sitting in your seats when you hear it....ESPECIALLY if you are a Pendergast fan who has read all the books.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

You won't be expecting it, neither will Pendergast...has he finally met his match?

Any additional comments?

This is a must and mandatory read for all Pendergast fans and even a good read for first time readers. Even if you have given up on the series, this one will bring you back and drop you off a cliff you didn't know was coming. A roller coaster ride with twists and turns that will lead you angry, excited, breathless, awe-struck and in tears.

Not their best work

I love Preston & Child and have read everything they've written as a writing team, especially the Pendergast books. I so looked forward to this one! However, it seems to me that Pendergast is nearly on his last leg as a character. The story was OK but not nearly as engaging as the earlier books. Rene Auberjonois did a fine job as narrator.

AWESOME-Wonderful

I've read every book in this series and have loved every one of them. This is the only book in the series that really needs preparation before tackling it. All the books in the series stand by themselves and this on will as well. However to to make complete sense, you really need to have read the entire series. It brings all the major/minor players and what has gone on in their lives that has brought them to this point. Ig Audible had a 10 point scale, this would be the one that rates it. DON;T MISS IT!

Another Winner

Would you listen to Two Graves again? Why?

Definitely, it is another great story

What other book might you compare Two Graves to and why?

Any of the other Pendergast novels (obviously) but other than these, I cannot think of another book or series to compare "Two Graves" to as I think the Pendergast series is unique

What three words best describe Rene Auberjonois’s performance?

Brilliant (1) and outstanding (2); especially his interpretation of Pendergast. However, I have given the performance only 3 stars due to the (in part) ghastly (3) pronunciation of the German lines. Hachette should be using (native) language advisors to avoid ruining a great book. That said, having listened to all the Pendergast novels, I cannot imagine a better narrator to perform these.

Any additional comments?

Looking forward to the next book in the series

Incredibly Disappointing

Spoiler Alert:
It started when Cory showed up doing her customary thought less activity. I’m tired of hearing her admit that what she did was stupid. Everything she does is stupid. Then the psychiatrist also acts unbelievably careless, almost gets killed, and only with the luck of a weak man survives. But the worst was when Pendergast lets his criminal, murdering son live. Was this because it was his son an not a soulless psychopath. Now there another Diogenes lose to kill. Come on authors that was unbelievable. This son was a murderer and as a law enforcement agent doing this was criminal. These books are too disappointing predictable and the way some of the characters behave ruin an other good story.
