Publisher's summary

After his wife, Helen, is brazenly abducted before his eyes, Special Agent Pendergast furiously pursues the kidnappers, chasing them across the country and into Mexico. But then, things go terribly, tragically wrong; the kidnappers escape; and a shattered Pendergast retreats to his New York apartment and shuts out the world.

But when a string of bizarre murders erupts across several Manhattan hotels - perpetrated by a boy who seems to have an almost psychic ability to elude capture - NYPD Lieutenant D'Agosta asks his friend Pendergast for help. Reluctant at first, Pendergast soon discovers that the killings are a message from his wife's kidnappers. But why a message? And what does it mean?

When the kidnappers strike again at those closest to Pendergast, the FBI agent, filled anew with vengeful fury, sets out to track down and destroy those responsible. His journey takes him deep into the trackless forests of South America, where he ultimately finds himself face to face with an old evil that - rather than having been eradicated - is stirring anew... and with potentially world-altering consequences.

Confucius once said: "Before you embark on a journey of revenge, first dig two graves." Pendergast is about to learn the hard way just how true those words still ring.

Pendergast at his best

I started with Relic and have slowly worked my way up through Two Graves. I like the authors style and the flow of the series. The narrative is superb. I have already purchased all the rest of this series and look forward to listening to them.

Disappointing

Usually, I really like the Pendergast novels, but this one was a disappointment in many ways. There are three story lines that are only barely related. It's almost like each author wanted to write a completely different book. Maybe they are setting something up for later novels, but the whole storyline of Corrie and her dad seemed kind of dumb and totally irrelevant. Nazis in the jungle experimenting on twins seemed absurd, as did the identity of the main twins (trying to avoid spoilers). Helen's role was also a letdown. Pendergast himself seemed almost like a different character. He certainly lost some of his mystique for me. Rene Auberjonois' performance is very good as always. Hopefully the next book will get things back on track.

great story

Another great story. even if it was "a little out there" but they did finally get rid of the camp music in-between high tension chapters etc.

If you've come this far in the series your here for the long haul.

Pendergast Remains Illusive But Strong

Would you listen to Two Graves again? Why?

Yes. The weaving of the story in these novels is so complex that another listen to the entire trilogy is a must. It is imperative to listen in order.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Two Graves?

When Pendergast is standing on the stones with his son but doesn't pull the trigger yet...and when the full story of Constance Green is revealed. There are so many that I can't sort through them all.

Have you listened to any of Rene Auberjonois’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes. I listened to him in Fever Dreams and Cold Vengeance. He is a superb narrator.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I had extreme reactions but sometimes I wanted to strangle Vincent and other times Pendergast himself. Preston and Child are an amazing duo.

Any additional comments?

Bring on more Pendergast!

ANOTHER great story

These two authors never let me down they're always great stories and I enjoyed this one as much as any I recommend it especially if you're a Pendergast fan. I actually felt sorry for him there for awhile but as always the greatness of the character pulled himself up and became the ol' FBI agent I'm used to.
Highly recommend this book to you, know you'll enjoy it.

Excellent Pendergast, hope it's not over

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, I enjoy this series. Good thriller, maintains your interest even with some of the fanciful storylines.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Agent Pendergast of course. HE is the reason for the books.

What about Rene Auberjonois’s performance did you like?

I enjoy his narration, easy to understand and not boring.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

at the end when Tristan revolted, wonderful.

Any additional comments?

Some old storylines were tied up which made me wonder if the series will continue. Did miss Lieutenant D'Agosta, not much involvement. Thought the storyline with the girl and her father was a bit out of context of the story. Felt like some of the storyline was right out of Boys From Brazil.

Really good!

This is one of the better Preston and Child books. It has a far-reaching and complex plot. It is best appreciated if you have read the previous novels in chronological order. The narrator is excellent.

What a ride

What made the experience of listening to Two Graves the most enjoyable?

Preston and Child pull out all the stops on this one. The novel takes in many unexpected directions and (almost) wraps it all up nicely.
