Publisher's summary

Filled with holiday charm and perfect for fans of Leslie Meier, Jacqueline Frost's charming series debut Twelve Slays of Christmas is set at a Christmas tree farm when the jolliest time of the year turns deadly.

When Holly White's fiancé cancels their Christmas Eve wedding with less than two weeks to go, Holly heads home with a broken heart. Lucky for her, home in historic Mistletoe, Maine is magical during Christmastime - exactly what the doctor prescribed. Except her plan to drown her troubles in peppermints and snickerdoodles is upended when local grouch and president of the Mistletoe Historical Society, Margaret Fenwick, is bludgeoned and left in the sleigh display at Reindeer Games, Holly's family tree farm.

When the murder weapon is revealed as one of the wooden stakes used to identify trees on the farm, Sheriff Evan Grey turns to Holly's father, Bud, and the Reindeer Games staff. And it doesn't help that Bud and the reindeer keeper were each seen arguing with Margaret just before her death. But Holly knows her father and is determined to exonerate him.

The jingle bells are ringing, the clock is ticking, and if Holly doesn't watch out, she'll end up on Santa's naughty list.

simple entertaining

decent story line, but narrator was not so good. she tried changing her voice for each character, but didn't do a good job remembering which voice went with the character. its was a bit confusing.

This was a fun story

Ok, so yes there is a murder, but this was a light and fun story. It's pretty clean, no horrific details, no sex scenes. It brings out the fun and warmth of the Christmas season in the setting. It's not 100 percent predictable either considering it's not an intense mystery. I really enjoyed this.

Not Bad

Good story, but definitely more of a Hallmark Christmas special than I expected. Still worth it.

Not my genre

I’m more into horror, macabre, supernatural.. I don’t like many mystery stories, but this wasn’t bad. This one was easy to listen too while doing chores didn’t require much focus.. well written if your into mystery/romance.

Fun new series

This author is new to me. While I’m not a huge fan of cozy mysteries I was drawn to this because of the Christmas theme. I really enjoyed it. The characters were likeable, and the main female character was not TSTL as they often are in cozies.

The narrator was ok. I didn’t feel there was enough difference between characters (except for the sheriff, although his slight accent kept coming and going). Some of the secondary characters’ voices sounded like the narrator had a bit of a stuffy nose. But for a fast-read cozy with feel-good elements, she was a fairly good fit.
