Publisher's summary

Thomas Kilbride is a map-obsessed schizophrenic so affected that he rarely leaves the self-imposed bastion of his bedroom. But with a computer program called Whirl360.com, he travels the world while never so much as stepping out the door. He pores over and memorizes the streets of the world. He examines every address, as well as the people who are frozen in time on his computer screen. Then he sees something that anyone else might have stumbled upon - but has not - in a street view of downtown New York City: an image in a window. An image that looks like a woman being murdered.

Thomas's brother, Ray, takes care of him, cooking for him, dealing with the outside world on his behalf, and listening to his intricate and increasingly paranoid theories. When Thomas tells Ray what he has seen, Ray humors him with a half-hearted investigation. But Ray soon realizes he and his brother have stumbled onto a deadly conspiracy. And now they are in the crosshairs.

Pretty enjoyable

Good story. Good plotline. More then anything, I liked hearing about the relationship between Ray and his brother. An entire book just on the two of them fitting into life after the dads death (not a spoiler) would have been a good read. How about a follow up book?

The narration of Ray and his brother was pretty good, but I thought the other narrator was weak and not very expressive.

A Fun Thriller

I generally don’t like thrillers, but this was a fantastic story… almost.

I could not go all the way and give it 5 stars because there always seemed to be one plot twist too many and it annoyed me. An extra connection too many. An extra layer to the drama that was just not needed.

The basic “I think I saw a murder on Street View” premise was great! No need to guild the lily with all the other unnecessary (and stupid: Sydney Olympics) sub plots.

That’s my only criticism; the story idea was otherwise very appealing.

Slow start, great second half

I had loved Barclay's "A Tap on the Window" from its start. This novel, "Trust Your Eyes," did not grab me in the same way. This is about two brothers (in their 30's), together in the aftermath of their father's death. Thomas has psych issues, and is obsessed with maps and lives on his computer exploring and memorizing maps. Ray is a successful media artist. The mystery stems from a picture Thomas sees depicting a possible murder in New York City. It took a long time for the characters to come alive to me, and for the plot to develop. But when it did, about halfway through, the book was riveting right to the end. This is about a crime, and a massive coverup, that gets bigger and bigger. Hard to rate a novel like this. The first half deserved 3 stars, but the second half was a strong 5 start story to me. There are two narrators - one for Thomas's first person narration, and one for the 3rd person narrator. Narration was good. Overall, I really liked this mystery-thriller. I almost quit near the start. I'm glad I didn't. While not especially realistic, it was both touching and exciting. It was a fun ride!

Best I've read all year

An excellent book. The only thing bad about it is it had to end. Highly recommended. You won't be disappointed.

A great ride

After most recently aggravating myself with a book that seemed promising for the first half but then left all the threads dangling, this was a terrific relief. I am on see of how the author spun out so many lines and reeled them all in convincingly with some surprises left for the end. And not those cheat surprises that come out of left field, either. You will not regret this purchase.

Interesting and creative story

I really enjoyed listening to this book. The story was interesting and it was easy to follow. The handful of characters were skillfully developed and well-sync'd with the story-line. Although the plot was not an overly complex, it was original enough to keep me guessing. The narration was good, but not excellent. I did appreciate the "teaming" between the two narrators which added to character consistency and provided some variety. I would definitely recommend this audio book.

slow at first, but ends great

the story seemed to sound really slow at first and a bunch of stories that didn't seem to go together. But not long into the book it all started to make sense and all those beginning stories were needed to make sense in the rest of the book. I love this story and it was very interesting and very intriguing

Different Narrator Needed

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, definitely. Loved the way everything came together

What did you like best about this story?

The last sentence.

What didn’t you like about Ken Marks and Rick Holmes ’s performance?

The performance was stilted, had a "reading" quality. I can't help thinking the book would have been a 5 overall with a different narrator.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

You think you know what's going on, but you don't!

Any additional comments?

Great story, really would have been better with different narration. There isn't even that much difference in the two voices that it helps the movement of the story - even distracting at times.
