Publisher's summary

A Southern doctor is pulled into a terrifying ring of murderous secrets in this “engrossing...full-tilt thriller” (The Washington Post) from the New York Times bestselling author of the Natchez Burning trilogy and the Penn Cage series.

Dr. Chris Shepard has never seen his new patient before. But the attractive young woman with the scarred face knows him all too well. An FBI agent working undercover, Alex Morse has come to Dr. Shepard’s office in Natchez, Mississippi, to unmask a killer. A local divorce attorney has a cluster of clients whose spouses have all died under mysterious circumstances. Agent Morse’s own brother-in-law was one of those clients, and now her beloved sister is dead. Then comes Morse's bombshell: Dr. Shepard’s own beautiful wife consulted this lawyer one week ago, a visit Shepard knew nothing about. Will he help Alex Morse catch a killer? Or is he the next one to fall victim to a deadly trap of sex, lies, and murder?

Brimming with the masterful suspense and intense psychological drama that made Turning Angel, Blood Memory, and The Quiet Game bestsellers, True Evil is an unnerving tale of evil lurking beneath the veneer of idyllic suburban life.

Greg Iles never dissapoints

I couldn't stop listening this story was so intriguing. Dick Hill's performance was outstanding as always. It was also great to revisit the Cage family

This book certainly earned its title

By the time I was done listening to this book, i was having doubts that be perpetrators would be caught & brought to justice & that there would a place for all the wrong doers.

Would not want to hang out with the bad guy

What made the experience of listening to True Evil the most enjoyable?

It was a good story, but I actually think this time I have to give props most for the performance. Dick Hill really makes it all come alive.

What was one of the most memorable moments of True Evil?

Whenever the assassin was in a scene, it was very creepy. He was a really scary man.

What does Dick Hill bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He changes voices to suit all the characters and even with a female protagonist, it never sounds corny.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Snakes Alive!

Awful reader

The reader!!! Awful. His pretend women’s voices are terrible. Ruined the book I would not recommend due to the reader.

My first Iles book, definitely not my last

I tentatively used one credit on True Evil. I wasn't sure if this one was for me. Happy to say it was that and more. Dick Hill is a favorite narrator of mine and did not disappoint. He did a brilliant job of bringing all of Iles' characters to life. 17-plus hours of this suspenseful thriller made for an exciting listen. Very highly recommended and worth the credit.

Narration performance not good

The quality of annunciation and Hill’s method of dramatic interpretation is not very good. At times the listener cannot even hear the words, usually at crucial points in the story. The plot kept me coming back as I love a good thriller but I will choose books by other narrators in the future.

Awesome

It’s interesting, suspenseful and a little too close to what’s happening in the world today. Bio warfare and the like. I’m glad I didn’t pay attention to some of the reviews ! And I love Dick Hill as a narrator. There is only one narrator I won’t listen to even though I may want to listen to a book and he’s not that one thank goodness!

Starts slow

I almost gave up in the beginning. The story starts out pretty slow and it took me a while to warm to the narrator's voice but I stuck with it and I'm glad I did. The last few chapters were worth it!
