Publisher's summary

A Southern doctor is pulled into a terrifying ring of murderous secrets in this “engrossing...full-tilt thriller” (The Washington Post) from the New York Times bestselling author of the Natchez Burning trilogy and the Penn Cage series.

Dr. Chris Shepard has never seen his new patient before. But the attractive young woman with the scarred face knows him all too well. An FBI agent working undercover, Alex Morse has come to Dr. Shepard’s office in Natchez, Mississippi, to unmask a killer. A local divorce attorney has a cluster of clients whose spouses have all died under mysterious circumstances. Agent Morse’s own brother-in-law was one of those clients, and now her beloved sister is dead. Then comes Morse's bombshell: Dr. Shepard’s own beautiful wife consulted this lawyer one week ago, a visit Shepard knew nothing about. Will he help Alex Morse catch a killer? Or is he the next one to fall victim to a deadly trap of sex, lies, and murder?

Brimming with the masterful suspense and intense psychological drama that made Turning Angel, Blood Memory, and The Quiet Game bestsellers, True Evil is an unnerving tale of evil lurking beneath the veneer of idyllic suburban life.

Great story. Couldn' t stop listening.

This story was terrific. I stayed up until the wee hours of the morning to hear the ending. Dick Hill did his usual excellent narration and kept me totally involved with the story.

Greg Iles is a master of storytelling

I cannot say enough about this book. Greg Iles is a master of storytelling. They methodical approach in which he unfolds the story is only second to his ability to capture your interest from essentially the beginning of the book. His exposition is more fun to read than other author's climax to the story. He simply knows how to draw you in and keep you there, sometimes to the point where you are unhappy that the ending is neigh. It was a really nice touch to include Tom Cage (and Penn and Annie) in spots throughout. Made me feel like Natchez really is a small town.

Great book but the last hour was a bit much

I really like this book very much ! The story kept me interested. But the last hour of the book was over done. Still I don't think the book was ruined by the last hour just diminished A bit. I notice a lot of people did not like the narrator. I'm not used to the southern accent myself. I don't think it ruined the book tho. I enjoyed this book all the way through And if the last hour of the book was not over done so much it would've been Perfect.

The villain was a bit too supernatural

The book was absorbing and a great listen. The heroine unbelievably resilient and the main villain astonishingly powerful. A good listen though superbly narrated.

Better read this one instead of listening

I wish I had paid more attention to the other reviews before buying True Evil. I had listened to two other Greg Iles books in the past and really enjoyed them. The narration of True Evil totally distracted from the story. I found this narrator hard to understand and I'm not sure if it was the volume inconsistencies or just his mumbling.
