Publisher's summary

As former D.C cop Mace Perry investigates a mysterious high-profile homicide in a last-ditch attempt to get her badge back, she finds herself on a collision course with the dark side of national security in this New York Times best seller.

Mason "Mace" Perry was a firebrand cop on the D.C. police force until she was kidnapped and framed for a crime - and then spent two years in prison. Now she's back on the outside and focused on one mission: to be a cop once more. Her only shot to be a true blue again is to solve a major case on her own. But even with her police chief sister on her side, she'll have to work in the shadows: A vindictive U.S. attorney will stop at nothing to send Mace back to jail. Enter Roy Kingman....

A young D.C. lawyer, Roy meets Mace after the murder of one of the firm's female partners. Soon Roy and Mace are investigating together - and uncovering surprising secrets from both the private and public sectors of the nation's capital.

Where's the Sequel?

Really enjoyed this book. Since Baldacci has done many character series, it's hard to understand why there has not been a follow-up. Ron McClarty does his typical fine performance.

Not my favorite Baldacci

The main character comes across as one min she's a badass and the next she's whiny and immature. The author also uses, "bandit" throughout the book to mean "bad guy". Law enforcement does not do this, so I found it very distracting. Many corny lines... seriously? And lastly, while I have sought out books narrated by this narrator, I would not suggest he narrate books that are mostly women characters. He comes across like a whiny teenage girl. A major disservice to the characters.

Loved the story

Very riveting storyline. I was listening in the car so engrossed I missed my turn. I wish these characters were a series.

I HOPE TO READ THAT DAVID BRINGS BACK THE SISTERS.

IT IS NOT OFTEN THAT I CAN FEEL JUST WHAT THE SISTERS FEEL. I HOPE MACE GETS REINSTATED, BUT IF NOT YOU WILL BE CHEERING FOR THEM.

Finally a female protagonist

I loved Mace. I am so happy that David Baldacci finally gave us a female protagonist.

Great read

Liked the character development and plot twists and turns. Did not like the rather frustrating ending with the all so sad true to life governmental shenanigans. Well written and compelling story line

True Blue

Great fast moving story, I could hardly stop listening. The ending was real but I was surprised it was not the usual Hollywood ending. The reader was good. Can not wait to read more by this author.

Average story

I can definitely see why this was a single book and not a series. The characters were good and I would enjoy reading them more but the overall premise of the story left a lot to be desired. The narrator was exceptional and easy to listen to.

An oldie but a goodie.

This is one of Baldacci's stand alone novels but a fun read. A bit unsatisfying at the end but actually logically how much of the swamps works. Enjoy.
