Publisher's summary

In a New York City fifty years in the future, Detective Eve Dallas tracks down those who break the law - including the ones sworn to uphold it.

Eve Dallas and her partner, Peabody, are following up on a brutal, senseless crime - an elderly grocery owner killed by three stoned punks for nothing more than kicks and snacks. And for the first time, Peabody is primary detective on the case, which means she has to get used to a new level of authority and responsibility. Good thing she learned the ropes from a master like Eve.

But after rounding up the perps, Peabody stumbles upon a much trickier situation. Determined to start working out as hard as she grills suspects, she chooses to do it at the old, rarely-used gym at Central. After a grueling workout, she squeezes into one of the narrow shower stalls, happy to have the place to herself. Just after she shuts the water off, the gym door clatters open - and while she cringes inside the stall, trying not to make a sound, Peabody overhears two fellow officers, Garnet and Oberman, arguing. References are made to delivering product, and a house in the islands, and someone named Keener who’s supposed to look like an OD. It doesn’t take long for a naked and vulnerable Peabody to realize that both officers are crooked - guilty not just of corruption but of murder as well. Fortunately, the two clear out of the locker room without realizing there was a witness.

Eve Dallas may have trained Peabody well - but this is too dangerous for one person to take on alone. Now Peabody, Eve, and her husband, Roarke, must try to get the hard evidence they need to bring the dirty cops down - knowing all the while that the two have already killed to keep their secret, and are no doubt willing to do it again.

Best of the series yet

Where does Treachery In Death rank among all the audiobooks you???ve listened to so far?

I believe I like this one best of the whole series.

What did you like best about this story?

Eve has shown so much personal growth over the course of the series but she is really in control of herself in this one. The conversation between her and Peabody about what made them become cops was extraordinary. Her insight into the feelings of Meara and Whitney and their dissappointment at the situation would not have fit in any earlier books

What does Susan Ericksen bring to the story that you wouldn???t experience if you just read the book?

Her distinct voices for each character is always good but there were alot of added people in the cop shop in this one and it was easy to keep straight all the conversations. You could almost hear the tears in Peabody's voice a couple of times.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I had a terrible time turning this one off. I got a lot of exercise at the gym the last two days because it was a good opportunity to listen, lol. I even listened about a half hour after turning out the light last night while my husband snored next to me. Thank goodness for earbuds.

Any additional comments?

I am already mourning the fact that there are only two full books and one short story left before I catch up to Ms. Robb.

My favorite so far.

I felt Peabody's fear at the beginning. And I wanted to cry with Dallas at the end. I loved seeing the whole team together.

Another Great Story

Where does Treachery In Death rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I love all my audiobooks and the JD Robb audiobooks are particular favorites. The stories are fun and fresh. Susan Ericksen's performance makes the characters come alive and enhances every story.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Eve Dallas. She's a survivor!

What about Susan Ericksen’s performance did you like?

Her characterizations are unique so you always know which character is speaking. She also "gets" each character and that comes across in her performance!

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I always laugh in Eve Dallas books and I sometimes cry. This one just made me want to see justice done!

Any additional comments?

I want more Eve Dallas and company stories and I want Susan Ericksen to perform them!

One of the best in the series!

I've been working my way through the series. I enjoy them all but this story is a favorite. The performance by Susan Ericksen is, as always, exceptional. Treachery in Death is an all around excellent audio book.
