Publisher's summary

Colleagues, friends, and lovers know Dodge Hanley as a private investigator who doesn't let rules get in his way—in his private life as well as his professional one. If he breaks a heart, or bends the law in order to catch a criminal, he does so without hesitation or apology.

That's why he's the first person Caroline King—who after a 30-year separation continues to haunt his dreams—asks for help when a deranged stalker attempts to murder their daughter...the daughter Dodge has never met. He has a whole bagful of grudging excuses for wishing to ignore Caroline's call, and one compelling reason to drop everything and fly down to Texas: guilt.

Dodge's mind may be a haze of disturbing memories and bad decisions, but he arrives in Houston knowing with perfect clarity that his daughter, Berry, is in danger. She has become the object of desire of a co-worker, a madman and genius with a penchant for puzzles and games who has spent the past year making Berry's life hell, and who now has vowed to kill her.

Dodge joins forces with local deputy sheriff Ski Nyland, but the alarming situation goes from bad to worse when the stalker begins to claim other victims and leaves an ominous trail of clues as he lethally works his way toward Berry. Sensing the killer drawing nearer, Dodge, who's survived vicious criminals and his own self-destructive impulses, realizes that this time he's in for the fight of his life.

From acclaimed best-selling author Sandra Brown, Tough Customer is a heart-pounding tale about obsession and murder, the fragile nature of relationships, and, possibly, second chances.

Not too bad

Being a Sandra Brown fan for a few years, I always like to see what new storyline her new books render. I hadn't read (or listened in this case) this book until now and needless to say it isn't one of her best ones. It was entertaining and worth a listen. One of my faves is "Fat Tuesday" as well as "Chill Factor". Those are the classic Brown suspense novels that i personally enjoy!

Just ok

This is not one of Sandra Brown’s better books. The first half was slow and annoying... she didn’t develop the main characters in a way that made them distinct and understandable. Too much unimportant back story.
The last third was the Sandra Brown that is fun and addictive to read. Lots of suspense and good character growth. The narrator did a great job with all the characters. The end left me with a good feeling, but overall, this book needs serious revision and editing.

Suspense!

Sandra Brown proves once again why she is my favorite author! This book was filled with intrigue and mystery from start to finish. I typically listen at bedtime and have to rewind a bit due to dosing off. That was not the case with this one. I couldn’t stop listening. I had to find out what would become of Berry and her mother, but most of all I became very fond of Dodge. This is in my top 10 great listens!

Would like to see where these characters go. Really enjoyed this. Will look for others that have them in them. Especially like Dodge...reminds me of my dad.

A favorite author of mine

Sandra Brown has written another hit. Victor Slezak has narrated another hit.. these 2ate my favorite combo... the many moods and interpretations of victor, become more apparent in this one... the sleazy voice of the bad guy just make you shiver...the surprise throughout and at the end are expected and yet still a surprise... expected only because Sandra couldn’t be dull... I read her work out of order of release, and still each one is better than the prior...this is s book 2 , can be read alone but I recommend you read the other first... I never say no to a Sandra /Victor audible...

I really enjoyed it

I have had this book for 2 years, and just now decided to listen. -- I read all the reviews and they were not very good.
Now I do not know why, it is a great book -- just like Sandra Brown.

the going back and forth to the past to tell part of the story is a trademark for her. I really liked this book, and wonder why it took me so long ..
on a side note, Envy by Sandra Brown is one of my all time favorites, this is almost as good.
