Publisher's summary

Number-one New York Times best seller

Catch a professional assassin: top priority. Find a failure-to-appear and collect big bucks: top score. How she’ll pull it all off: top secret.

Trenton, New Jersey’s favorite used-car dealer, Jimmy Poletti, was caught selling a lot more than used cars out of his dealerships. Now he’s out on bail and has missed his date in court, and bounty hunter Stephanie Plum is looking to bring him in. Leads are quickly turning into dead ends, and all too frequently into dead bodies. Even Joe Morelli, the city’s hottest cop, is struggling to find a clue to the suspected killer’s whereabouts. These are desperate times, and they call for desperate measures. So Stephanie is going to have to do something she really doesn’t want to do: protect former hospital security guard and general pain in her behind Randy Briggs. Briggs was picking up quick cash as Poletti’s bookkeeper and knows all his boss’ dirty secrets. Now Briggs is next on Poletti’s list of people to put six feet under.

To top things off, Ranger - resident security expert and Stephanie’s greatest temptation - has been the target of an assassination plot. He’s dodged the bullet this time, but if Ranger wants to survive the next attempt on his life, he’ll have to enlist Stephanie’s help and reveal a bit more of his mysterious past.

Death threats, highly trained assassins, highly untrained assassins, and Stark Street being overrun by a pack of feral Chihuahuas are all in a day’s work for Stephanie Plum. The real challenge is dealing with her Grandma Mazur’s wild bucket list. A boob job and getting revenge on Joe Morelli’s Grandma Bella can barely hold a candle to what’s number one on the list - but that’s top secret.

Praise for Top Secret Twenty-One

“The combination of biting dialogue, outrageous characters and intense story lines are consistent throughout. And [Janet Evanovich] novels are the true definition of a guilty pleasure.” (Associated Press)

“Evanovich doesn’t disappoint.... [She] weaves setting, family, romance and crime to pull the plot of Top Secret Twenty-One forward.” (Bookreporter)

Good Story

Any additional comments?

I still like Stephanie and all the characters in this series. The men are still hot, Grandma is still funny, Stephanie is still a klutz. The series is getting to the point that it feels like the story is on a loop with very little character development. I want to know if Stephanie wants Joe or Ranger as her love interest. After all this time she needs to decide. At the same time I can see how this is part of the template.

The books are good and entertaining. Lorelei King is a decent narrator. My biggest complaint about the audio compared to print is that "she said" or "he said" stands out more than any other part of the story. I don't notice it as much reading.

Love her books

Feral Chihuahuas? Totally something I did not expect, but what a wonderful book. I absolutely love the series, I am listening to them all in order. Worth every penny!

Another win for Stephanie Plum!!!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Just a good listen, that's why!

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Pretty much. Although Ms Evanovich does have a formula, it's one that is loved by millions.

What does Lorelei King bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I don't think I could listen to a Stephanie Plum novel without Ms King doing the reading. She has all the characters down to a science!

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Sure, that would be just plain fun, as long as I had a bag of donuts,or maybe Cluck in a bucket!!

Any additional comments?

Just plain fun!!

Loved it!

This book was hilarious. I feel the clumsiness of the main character. She's very down to earth. It only took a couple days. I just couldn't stop till I knew how it ended. And it was action to the very end.

Repetitive

Characters not evolving, how many more vehicles can Stepanie destroy? Too predictable foe me anymore.

Fun, but...starting to become too predictable

Where does Top Secret Twenty-One rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

It was fun to listen to, and I appreciated bringing in the character Randy Briggs as that broke things up, but these stories are becoming so formulaic, so repetitive (granny at the viewings, Lula at the cluck in a bucket, ranger naked in a bed, Joe continuing to be the guy who doesn't seem to care that his girlfriend has another love interest, an evil bad guy that ends up almost taking Stephanie out, etc... the pace and predicaments plugged into each section of the book showed up like clock-work, it's hard not to anticipate exactly what is going to happen next. Another-words, I'm getting bored and may not get the next one... but then again, I may.

I appreciated the little changes, the new attitude for the mother, in re: a household chore. The travel to Atlantic City and New York was also good.
