When Bessie's body is found on the muddy banks of the river Thames, Tom is grief-stricken and vows to find her murderer. Assisted by his 11-year-old apprentice, Ned, he discovers a monstrous shadow that hung over her life: Moonman. But who is he? Is he one of the Angels - the high-minded group of artists to which Valentine belongs? Or is the truth more terrifying still?

I loved this book. Tom Wasp, chimney sweep, is the main protagonist, and the guy who reads the book does a wonderful job with the Cockney accent (wonderful in that he sounds Cockney, but you can understand him). Tom is a great character. I hope more of Amy Myers' Tom Wasp books (if there are any) are recorded. They're are much less dismal and move along much more quickly than Anne Perry's books in a similar Victorian setting. Tom has a great "voice," and he hasn't lost his sense of humor, even though his circumstances are dire.
