Publisher's summary

The Navy SEALs have been fighting terrorists around the world for over a decade. And for all that time, the Bandito Platoon SEALS from SEAL Team Seven have been on continuous combat rotation. Now they have drawn a shipboard assignment off Central America - an easy day.

But for a Navy SEAL, the only easy day was yesterday.

In a powerful story of global anti-terrorism inspired by real life missions, Act of Valor combines stunning combat scenes, up-to-the-minute battlefield technology, and heart-pumping emotion for the ultimate action adventure.

Act of Valor takes you deep into the secretive world of today’s most elite, highly trained group of warriors. When the rescue of a kidnapped CIA operative leads to the discovery of a deadly terrorist plot against the United States, a team of SEALs is dispatched on a worldwide manhunt. As the men of Bandito Platoon race to stop a coordinated attack that could kill and wound thousands of American civilians, they must balance their commitments to country, team, and their families back home.

But each time they accomplish their mission, a new piece of intelligence reveals another shocking twist to the plot, which stretches from Chechnya to the Philippines and from Ukraine to Somalia. The widening operation sends the SEALs across the globe as they track the terrorist ring to the U.S.-Mexico border - where they engage in an epic firefight with potentially unimaginable consequences for America…

An awesome read

Would you listen to Tom Clancy Presents: Act of Valor again? Why?

Yes, I might listen to this again, but my read/listening patterns is to only listen once and move on. Still, this was a awesome book and I would recommend it to anyone who likes action, with a military theme, a strong sense of love for defending principle, true friendship and country. A very patriotic work that is not cheesy. One thing that is important to me in a story is strong character development. This book has that which creates a strong foundation for everything else.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Tom Clancy Presents: Act of Valor?

Oh, the ending. There may be tears.

Which scene was your favorite?

The boat scene.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Same as the title, (which is what they did for the movie).

Any additional comments?

If this kind of book is your thing, I doubt you will be disappointed.

Frequent Listener

Can't wait for the movie to come out next weekend. I just completed two other Tom Clancy books on tape and of the three this one is my favorite. George does a good job reading as he always does, engaging yet calm and clear. I told my wife when this comes out at the theater she will have to have her tissues ready for the ending, that is all I'll say. Great listen.

Only one problem...

While this was an excellent 'read' I wish it had been narrated by someone with a military background. I got very distracted by Mr. Weber referring to our military medical personnel as corpsman or corpsmen when he actually pronounced the letter 's' each time. The word is properly pronounced "cor - man" or "cor - men".

With only this minor complaint, this was truly a magnificent book / story.

Great story, but please work on the pronunciation

The story was, in my opinion, excellent albeit tragic at the end. But there was a BIG problem for me in the reader's mis-pronunciation of several key words.

The Seals' training drop zone is at Otay Mesa. The reader said Oh-tay where the correct pronunciation is Oh-Tie. He referred to the carrier from which the Seals operated as the Bon-uh m Rich-erd where the correct pronunciation amongst those who've sailed on her, including myself, is Baw-nawm re-shar and he refers to a single Navy Corpsman as a corps-man where this applies only to the plural. The correct pronunciation in the singular is kohr-muhn, kawr.

These were major distractions from an otherwise great read.

I watched the movie, when it came out, and the story is the same as the movie. I cried at the end of both! Highly recommend

WOW!!! Tom Clancy has done it again!!

Where does Tom Clancy Presents: Act of Valor rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I have always been a huge fan of Tom Clancy's books especially the Jack Ryan Series, and as a verteran of the armed forces and having had MANY relatives in the service of our country, this is a very powerful story and can even open the eyes of those hardened veterans. I would have to say that if you are a veteran or even active duty and do not at least well up with emotion toward the end of this book you need to re-read it again you missed something!!! Bravo Tom Clancy!!! Bravo!!!! Cant wait to catch the movie!!!!

BASED ON TRUE EXPERIENCE

THIS WAS EVEN MORE EXCITING BECAUSE IT WAS A TRUE ADVENTURE BY OUR NAVY. (SEALS)
