Publisher's summary

SUSPICION. It burned through every nerve and fiber of Julie Carlson - the heartbreaking, infuriating suspicion that her husband was having an affair. To the rest of the world, Sid Carlson was a wealthy contractor with friends in highly influential places. But to Julie, he was a man who had cheated on their marriage vow. Heartbroken by her husband, Julie turns to a handsome stranger.

Mac McQuarry knew better than to mix women and work. And he had enough trouble of his own: The disgraced former cop had been demoted after an explosive shakedown of the Charleston police department. But when Julie Carlson hires him, Mac can't resist. Not only is she drop-dead gorgeous, but her husband was a player in Mac's inglorious downfall.

But what begins as a run-of-the-mill assignment spiced by a fiery flirtation suddenly spirals into a harrowing race for survival. Tracking the Carlsons' car down a lonely road one night, Mac witnesses an incredible hit that targeted Julie. Suddenly Mac and Julie have become the hunted. With the mob and the police in hot pursuit, they can rely only on each other as they crash their way through a maze of buried secrets and deadly deceptions.

What Fun!!!

This is a fun story...I didn't get that from the introduction of the book. But it was really really funny in places. I loved these characters. And they were characters alright!

Ugh! Profanity throughout the Whole Book!

Any additional comments?

I was disappointed at the number of F-Bombs in this book not to mention all the other profanity throughout the book. I only wish someone had left a review informing potential listeners of this…I would not have wasted a credit!!

TSTL(Julie)

OMG- The main character - Julie is TSTL ! I wanted to kill her myself ! The narrator's southern voice for Julie ,her mother ,sister and Mac's partner about drove me up the wall ! I love Mac and his dog - I would love to take them home with me.

Good story; poor narrator

To Trust A Stranger is one of Robard's better RS books from earlier days. There are some funny lines from the H but the h is less impressive, her character made even less attractive by Hick's awful narrating voice. She gives Julie a high, almost-whiny voice, making her sound like a silly schoolgirl.

Since this book leans strongly on the male lead's POV, a male narrator would have been a better choice than the squeaky Hicks. There is an older, abridged version narrated by Kate Forbes who did a much better job. She gives Julie a warm, husky voice which makes her sexy and easier for me to get what Mac sees in her. It is a pity that the unabridged version which I wanted very much, turned out to be such a disappointment!

Engaging story and plot.

let me get the bad news over first. 1) Female lead Julie had several " to stupid to live moments". 2) Narrator did this weird crescendo voice raising thing when reading love scences. Otherwise, I loved the story. I loved the Male lead. I loved the romance . I loved the ending.

Okay

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

No

Would you be willing to try another book from Karen Robards? Why or why not?

Have almost all of her books but this one was just okay

Did Laura Hicks do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

She was okay but still not better than the voices in my head when I read the books myself.

This was annoying… all the gushing descriptions of the hunky male lead was irritating to listen to- or read.

Forgotten how much I loved this story!

This is a sweet story with endearing leads. I also love when Karen incorporated pets into her stories (Walking After Midnight with Muffy the dog - wish they would make this novel an audiobook too!). The near escapes and overall adventure kept me anticipating getting back to listening as quickly as possible. Very good narrator. Highly recommend.
