The anonymous call derails Stacy Justice’s plans for a lazy summer: hot dogs and beer; swims in the lake with her Great Dane, Thor; and hanging with her rekindled old flame, Chance. For years she’s blamed herself for her father’s death - a blame that drove her away from witchcraft and her destiny. But who’d want to kill an innocent small-time newspaperman? That’s the question on Stacy’s mind when she casts a spell that goes horribly wrong.
Now, between the white tiger that appears out of thin air, the body in the lake, the gun-toting maniac, and a sudden surge in her powers, Stacy has her hands full once again. Solving the mystery of her father’s death takes top priority…and avenging it, a very close second.

This series just gets more entertaining. Stacy has several mysteries to solve in this one, her father's murder which had been considered an accident, a dead man in the lake, another spell gone wrong with hilarious consequences, a scary incident in a courtyard, being shot at in a junkyard, figuring out what happened to her aunt's fiance on their wedding day over 30 years before, with a little romance thrown in for good measure.
I'm a 30-something paranormal, mystery, and humor enthusiast. For me, the main character is the most important part of a book.
Absolutely. I was actually upset that this was all I could read (so far) But the new book Emerald Isle comes out soon, and I've already pre-ordered it.
YES!! Annino manages to pack a lot into her books. It didn't take days to listen to. There wasn't a lot of deep inner monologues (looking at you Kim Harrison!!) or descriptions that really aren't that pertinent.
We are now proud parents of a daughter and a wonderful son-in-law! He is also a child of The U. S. Navy, bonded over military time:)!
When I first listened to the first book, I couldn't get into it. About 2-3 weeks later, I gave it another try. A narrator is so critical to make or break an audible book. My only complaint is when she speaks as Stacy, she so monotone, it drove me crazy. Stacy is vibrant and colorful. Ms. Rubinnate speaks great for all other characters, except Stacy. I do enjoy this series and will continue listen to Stacy's antics because they make me laugh.
Sci-fi, detective, cozy. Only give 5s to those books I think stand above the rest. 4 is a good solid book. 3 is average, nothing special.
It's fun following Stacy around. This installment is about the same as the previous ones. If you've gotten this far you know what to expect. The production quality was iffy, could hear background noise.
Barbra has continued the wonderful development of the characters and had a satisfactory story.
The narrator was a more than adequate story teller, but just missed getting enthusiasm into the characters. The reader seemed a bit monotone throughout the tale and I just couldn't get into the characters. Where is the old fashioned radio broadcast enthusiasm?
The story was adequate to carry the day, but the heroine, for being such a powerful witch, is a bit wimpy and winey. The clues to the mystery are quickly presented and miss the Sherlock Holmes logical approach. The heroine never seems to be in control and seems to promote stereotypes of the scatterbrained irrationally emotional women. The supporting characters seem scatterbrained also.
Still, the book seems to be much better than the last one.
Although I enjoy these books, the audio performance is very distracting from the story as the narrator has a nerve-wracking monotone when reading all but the characters dialogue. She does a great job of animating the characters individually, I just wish she would animate the story as well.
Unless it was a free offering, I would more than likely avoid Amy Rubinate's other performances.
"Fab - Where's book 4?"
Fantastic thank you Barbra. Read them all and have now listened to them all just can't wait for book 4 with Stacy - need to know more about her life and Thor and Chance and Leo. Please... this year can you ensure we here more. I've got my son hooked now as well.
