Publisher's summary

For President Jack Ryan, his son Jack Ryan, Jr., and the covert organization known as The Campus, the fight against America’s enemies is never over. But the danger has just hit home in a way they never expected in this #1 New York Times bestselling Tom Clancy thriller....

The Campus has been discovered. And whoever knows they exist knows they can be destroyed. Meanwhile, President Jack Ryan has been swept back into the Oval Office - and his wisdom and courage are needed more desperately than ever.

Internal political and economic strife has pushed the leadership of China to the edge of disaster. And those who wish to consolidate their power are using the opportunity to strike at long-desired Taiwan, as well as the Americans who have protected the tiny nation.

Now, as two of the world’s superpowers move ever closer to a final confrontation, President Ryan must use the only wild card he has left - The Campus. But with their existence about to be revealed, they might not even have a chance to enter the battle before the world is consumed by war.

Only One Problem

The book itself is great, suspenseful, and exciting. Lou Diamond Phillips does a great job with the voices and narration as well. The only problem is that right from the start, you can hear Lou'd quick intake of breaths over and over, and pretty soon it's all you seem to hear. I attribute this to very bad directing and worse editing.

From start to finish great book

This is my second Tom Clancy book , and I have to say I love them . This book does not have a boring moment in it , keeps you wondering what's happening next . This is my first time listening to Lou diamond Phillips , and he is now among my favorite narrators . I think he gives great life to the characters

Excellent story and narration

This is a great audiobook. The threat of cyberwarfare seems very plausible, and the story itself is gripping. Maybe the superheroic exploits of the characters are a little over the top, but you don't read Tom Clancy for total realism. And the narrator was great. He used just a hint of accents to remind the listener of the different ethnicities of the characters. If you buy this book, resign yourself to the fact that you will definitely be listening to it instead of doing things that you SHOULD be doing. It's a hard book to turn off.

Clancy is fantastic!

Would you listen to Threat Vector again? Why?

I enjoyed the story and was surprised at the ending - which is unusual for me. I found L D Phillips extremely distracting as a narrator.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No, but I looked forward to the commute with it 'waiting' for me in the car.

Another great chapter of the Jack Ryan (jr) story

If you are a fan of the Jack Ryan storyline then this is another must read. I saw this book on display at Barns and Nobel at the mall,I downloaded it and was enjoying it on audible on my ride home. This book looks to China as the Threat this time giving the various Middle Eastern boogy men a break. Well written and thought out. Also without giving anything away there are some great John Clark (my favorite character) moments of an old guy kicking some butt.

A great reading of a fantastic story

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Great action, and a stellar performance by Lou Diamond Phillips

Have you listened to any of Lou Diamond Phillips’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

This is my second time to hear LDP perform, and I have to say I am somewhat amazed by his incredible talent. From my brief previous exposure to him I never knew he had such depth of performance; his character voices are right on the money. He is quickly becoming my favorite narrator.

Any additional comments?

Pet Peeve - This is the UNABRIDGED version of this book; so many other reviewers are complaining about the length\detail of this reading. I would suggest the abridged version for those who don't want as much detail, but IMHO it is unfair to buy the lengthiest version of a book then criticize it for being "too long" as though the author has done something wrong. For my taste, I appreciate the unabridged versions and the hard work and detail that goes into them.

Great Story

Having spent years growing older with these characters, its nice to see they are feeling the years too!!
Pity Mr Clancy died before his time, however I look forward to the book that's already done.

Classic Clancy!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Absolutely! Lou Diamond Phillips was a great choice as narrator.

What did you like best about this story?

The timely subject matter of cyber warfare and the detail in which Clancy explains how real it is. I love the Jack Ryan characters and this book is a great addition to the series. I like the technical information related to cyber warfare and the manner in which is explained. It is not as dry and technical as the data in "The Hunt for Red October".

Which character – as performed by Lou Diamond Phillips – was your favorite?

John Clark... Always pictured him with a tough, raspy voice and Phillips captures it well.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I hated to hit pause long enough to run into a store or other errand.

Any additional comments?

The length may sound long but flies by as quickly as reading hardback copies.

Have you listened to any of Lou Diamond Phillips’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
