Publisher's summary

For President Jack Ryan, his son Jack Ryan, Jr., and the covert organization known as The Campus, the fight against America’s enemies is never over. But the danger has just hit home in a way they never expected in this #1 New York Times bestselling Tom Clancy thriller....

The Campus has been discovered. And whoever knows they exist knows they can be destroyed. Meanwhile, President Jack Ryan has been swept back into the Oval Office - and his wisdom and courage are needed more desperately than ever.

Internal political and economic strife has pushed the leadership of China to the edge of disaster. And those who wish to consolidate their power are using the opportunity to strike at long-desired Taiwan, as well as the Americans who have protected the tiny nation.

Now, as two of the world’s superpowers move ever closer to a final confrontation, President Ryan must use the only wild card he has left - The Campus. But with their existence about to be revealed, they might not even have a chance to enter the battle before the world is consumed by war.

One Scary Prescient Ride

Tom Clancy's imagination has always had a tendency to find potential real problems and make an exciting story. If someone had paid attention to Executive Orders, we might have had a better system in place on 9/11 to protect the Federal buildings.

Now he has imagined the cyber threat in its full extent, reinforced by the enemy equivalent of Seal Team Six. Jack Ryan Sr, President is President and managing the crisis, but Jack Ryan, JR. is now doing the derring-do. But he has problems - his girl friend is being manipulated by the Enemy, the Enemy is aware of the super-secret organization for which he is both analyst and operative.

And the Enemy knows a hell of a lot, because it controls the WWW, has hacked into most of the essential systems of modern life - banking, power, water. II found it worrying IRL - but it makes for a great story!

Jack Ryan lives on!

Where does Threat Vector rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Threat Vector is the much-awaited continuation of the Jack Ryan saga, although this one, as the previous two books before it, centered much on the younger Jack Jr. As a certified Tom Clancy fan, I bought the book, e-book and the audiobook--that way I have options available to me. If you've read any Tom Clancy book before, you know that it's impossible to put down.

So anyway, Tom Clancy's strength played out in much the same fashion as in his previous works--his ability to meld current events with very plausible scenarios and come up with a completely believable story proves he's still the master of the game. At times I've found myself wondering if he had sat down with general officers and war-gamed these scenarios, as the details are just so ironed-out that it's like reading actual events.

This time around, the conflict is centered in the Asia-Pacific region, with the disputed South China Sea territories being in the center. Although the threat of mass-destruction in North America is not too apparent as in Executive Orders, the threat of a cyber meltdown is very much present. With much of the world dealings conducted in the wires, this is a very real, very plausible threat. If an antagonist such as the one in the book do exist, he then sits among the POTUS and the commander of a nuclear submarine as the most powerful individuals in the world.

Threat Vector is a must-read and/or must-listen-to Tom Clancy novel.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Threat Vector?

I don't want to give anything away, but it has got to be when the POTUS finds out where his son has gone to. You could almost see his face and feel what he's going through.

Have you listened to any of Lou Diamond Phillips’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I've never heard Lou Diamond Phillips narrate a book before, but after this one, I'm buying whatever he's going to narrate in the future. He has put up a stellar performance!

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

As a soldier in the reserve forces in the Philippines, I'm very much aware of the tensions in the SCS. A lot of what-ifs crossed my mind while listening to and reading this book.

Any additional comments?

Need I say more? If you don't have this book, go and buy it now, and get ready for a great story.

Good Political Intrigue Story

Any additional comments?

I really enjoyed this book. It was full of plots and subplots and always held my interest. Despite the complexity of the story it was easy to follow and was plausible (although plausibility was stretched a bit near the end). I listened to this book while I was working out and it made my workouts go faster as I was always anxious to see what was going to happen. I though this book was a real bargain.

Great Job!

Lou Diamond Phillips voice is absolutely perfect for the Ryanverse. This is now my second or third book with him as the narrirator, he really adds to the brilliant works of Clancy and Greaney. This book really had me on edge with all the built up suspense.
