    "Decent police procedural"

I can't quite make my mind up about this audiobook. It's a solid, straightforward police procedural with believable characters and a strong plot. It is a fairly short, easy and enjoyable listen. However a few things things let it down. Firstly, the writing style is far too basic, everything is over explained and the reader is not attributed with any intelligence. This series is set in Manchester and I was really looking forward to lots of local references. However, apart from mentioning the Longsight police station there are few other references to the city and I felt that it could have been set anywhere. Finally, the narrator is OK and listenable but I wish she had put more energy into the reading.
