Publisher's summary

A murder in a quiet English village, long-buried secrets, and a man's search for answers about his traumatic past entangle FBI agents Emma Sharpe and Colin Donovan in the latest edge-of-your-seat Sharpe & Donovan novel.

As a young boy, Oliver York witnessed the murder of his wealthy parents in their London apartment. The killers kidnapped him and held him in an isolated Scottish ruin, but he escaped, thwarting their plans for ransom. Now, after 30 years on the run, one of the two men Oliver identified as his tormentors may have surfaced.

Emma Sharpe and Colin Donovan are enjoying the final day of their Irish honeymoon when a break-in at the home of Emma's grandfather, private art detective Wendell Sharpe, points to Oliver. The Sharpes have a complicated relationship with the likable, reclusive Englishman, an expert in Celtic mythology and international art thief who taunted Wendell for years. Emma and Colin postpone meetings in London with their elite FBI team and head straight to Oliver. But when they arrive at York's country home, a man is dead, and Oliver has vanished.

As the danger mounts, new questions arise about Oliver's account of his boyhood trauma. Do Emma and Colin dare trust him? With the trail leading beyond Oliver's small village to Ireland, Scotland, and their own turf in the US, the stakes are high, and Emma and Colin must unravel the decades-old tangle of secrets and lies before a killer strikes again.

Another wonderful work by author and narrator.

I always enjoy Carla Neggers' books and being able to listen while driving is a very special treat for me.

Excellent as always

I always know when I pick up one of these that I'm going to love it. It was true this time, as well. I was fooled a few times at the twists the plot took. The voice of the audio always seems to be real, as if the characters are right there reading it to me. Excellent writer and excellent narration.

I love this series!!

I have throughly enjoyed this series, so much so that I've listened from the beginning to current in less than a month! It's the family of characters that really draw you in. You might think to predict what could happen next with any of the characters but you will often be surprised. This review is for the entire series to date and each novel has positive and negative. If you prefer to find a great series, understanding how series flow up and down, this one is very enjoyable. Highly recommend!!

An ok story!

I finally got thru this book! It was all over the place, and bringing in Henrietta, as a neighbor, childhood play mate and now possible love interest???
Well, Henrietta's mannerism and voice were a bit off putting!!
The love story fell flat for me!!
Ruined Oliver's intelligence in picking a mate.
But maybe they'll be good for each other????
It was very oddly done. Then... Well i won't ruin it for you.
But, i finally got to the real part of the story, Oliver's abduction at age 8, 30 years ago and again the story, finally pulled itself together!

Overall, i felt it fell flat at the beginning to middle, then the ending was ok but wierd!
Too long, too much emptiness and no real purpose for Sharpe and Donovan!

Was disappointed ..just my opinion.

Decent story; performance did not match the character

I truly enjoy this Carla Negger’s series but unfortunately Carol Monda’s or the director’s choice of voice characterization for Oliver was so unlike the character as described in all the books. It was higher pitched, often sounding shaky despite the fact that Oliver is a strong character who stays cool under the most difficult situations. This ruined the performance for me as Oliver was the central character.

PLEASE CHANGE READER!!!

CAROL MONDA SHOULDN'T READ PROFESSIONALLY. If audible has negative stars, I'd give Performance a negative 5 stars.
She has ruined Sharpe and Donovan for me. She can't do accents, all male characters sound the same, all female characters sound the same.
I skipped through much of the book, I just can't listen to the reader. I'm done with Sharpe and Donovan. I enjoyed the first 3 books so much, I cringed through the following books but I should never have bought this one. She just irritates me so much, can't do it any longer. Would love to know how this ends, but not sure I ever will.
