Coben is a brilliant, versatile storyteller!

A wonderful, unpredictable thriller. I went back ad re-listened to parts of the book just to make sure I followed the twists and turns. Good reading fun!

the woods

Would you consider the audio edition of The Woods to be better than the print version?

Did not read the book. I use audible more frequently so that I can listen on my way to work, work breaks, doing laundry etc.

Which character – as performed by Scott Brick – was your favorite?

Gill's mother

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

If I had time that would have been great.

Any additional comments?

This is the first Harlan Corbin book I have listened to. I was about to return the book after listening to the first 4 chapters, then my husband, who is a big fan of Corbin said I should try at least one more chapter.I'm so glad I did. The book was great.the story line picked up and I could not wait to finish it.
All the characters were well done, I especially liked the phone calls! Mr Corbin has a wonderful style and plays on our human emotions. Scott brick, who I had a hard time getting use to became very easy to listen too. I think I was just so used too another narrator that I wasnt ready to clear my mind.
If you haven't given Harlan Corbin a listen I highly recommend his books and Scott brick is an AWESOME narrator.

Couldn't stop listening!

Very entertaining! Lots of plot twists and turns. Scott Brick does a great job with narration. The plot matches real life where things are rarely black and white.

Can you cast stones if you aren't blameless?

Once again, Harlan Coben delivers a great read/listen. Cope, a county district attorney, is prosecuting a rape case. The victim is a young, poor, Black woman. The rapists are two rich, white college students. This sounds straightforward, but Coben adds in the father of one of the accused, determined to "save" his son's life. This man will go to any lengths to stop Cope. And here's how a straightforward story becomes a Harlan Coben thriller! As teens, Cope and his sister attended and worked at a summer camp. One night, each of them went into the woods with friends and lovers. Some didn't return after a bloody slaying. Even though the murderer was imprisoned, many questions of guilt remain. This storyline joins the first as the novel progresses. Coben does a great job of developing his main characters as well as his storylines. I would enjoy a series featuring Cope. The narration by Scott Brick is excellent.

I had read the book before and loved it, the audible brought back the joy that I had when first reading this book. Just amazing. Harlan Coben is truly unique.

Terror at Summer Camp

Reading it myself may have improved my opinion. As a sleep-away camp veteran I could overlook some inaccuracies and lived with some of the odd lingo the author used. Howver, listening to the narration was painful. The narrator should have picked a persona, or better yet, just been himself. Instead, he opted to be Christopher Walkin when he wanted to be tough. the rest of the time he opted for "generic creepy guy" ( like the guy who narrated the The Silent Patient). which is whe he should have been "nice, decent guy." Oddly, he did fairly well with women's voices.

Pretty good story - pretty bad narrator

The story was a pretty good mystery/suspense. I did not like the narrator. I found it difficult to discern between both who the speakers were in the conversation and also what was spoken vs thought during a conversation.
