Publisher's Summary

Someone has left a severed hand in the centre of Manchester and the only clue Detective Sergeant Jessica Daniel has to go on is CCTV footage of a woman in a long black robe placing it carefully on the ground. With a lengthy missing persons list and frantic families wondering if the body part could belong to their absent loved ones, the detective has plenty to deal with - and that's before a detached finger arrives in the post.

By the time a second hand is found and a local MP's wife goes missing, Jessica is left struggling to find out who the appendages belong to, how they are connected and just what the mysterious woman in black has to do with it all... This is the third book in the smash-hit Jessica Daniel series of novels, which have sold over 300,000 copies in the UK.

    "Poorly written and narrated"

After listening to another in the Jessica Daniel series and being unsure of its merits I decided to give Kerry Wilkinson another listen. I had been impressed with the police procedural aspect of the previous book and this had good reviews so I decided to give it a go. Unfortunately I found it a very hard going, poorly written listen. I think there is a good plot in there somewhere but once again the patronising writing and narration really lets this series down. There are so many other good listens out there that I don't want to waste any more of my time on this series.

"Excellent for listening to on a long journey"
What did you like most about The Woman in Black?

Listened to this with my 16 year old daughter on a long car journey. It stopped us being bored! It was excellent, with enough of a twist to keep us guessing. It is a little full on descriptive detail at times which some may feel slows down the action but is ideal for when you are driving and need to concentrate on the road as well.

What other book might you compare The Woman in Black to, and why?

It is similar to a number of detective novels but with a little more side story than most such as P D James

Have you listened to any of Becky Hindley’s other performances? How does this one compare?

The narration was very good. With some book readings the volume decreases at times which makes it hard to hear when you are in a car but with this one the volume remained constant which was good. The accent was easy to listen to.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

We listened to over 5 hours of it on a journey North and couldn't wait to come back South so that we could listen to the rest!

    "Love the Jessica Daniel series"
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, good storyline and down to earth characters. Love the relationship between Jessica and DC Rowlands- their banter makes me smile.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Woman in Black?

Difficult to say without giving away the plot

Which scene did you most enjoy?

    When the twist was revealed

If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

The Woman in Black- beware the killer is back

    Any additional comments?

The Woman in Black , book 3 of the Jessica Daniel series, is my favourite so far. I love the character including all her flaws and foolhardiness, and find myself routing for her. The plot is unusual and kept me interested right to the end, whereupon I downloaded the next in the series!
Becky Hindley narrates the stories excellently and brings the character to life.
Would recommend the series, but would say to read/listen to them in order as the relationships between the characters build thorough out each book.

"Superb series for an upcoming author"

I bought this book first because of the synopsis, then realised it was part of a series involving the same characters, so bought the other books in the series to listen to them in order, which is just as well as the later books refer back to scenes from the earlier ones. Just to say, most reviewers say books are un-putdownable, but with Kerry's super writing, the series is un-putdownable. I have listened to the first three books within a week and you can really relate to characters like Jessica Daniels. Very highly recommended listening for anyone who loves detective fiction as I do.
