Publisher's Summary

The Witch of Watergate is book four of Warren Adler's nine-book Fiona Fitzgerald mystery series.

Detective Fiona Fitzgerald is an unlikely force for justice in Washington, D.C.'s predominantly male police force. As a Senator's daughter and top investigator in the homicide division of the Metropolitan Police Department, Fiona maneuvers between two vastly different worlds, moving quickly from opulent State galas to gritty crime scenes. Born into the elite social circles of the nation's capital, and armed with intimate knowledge of the true face of the political establishment, Fiona is determined to expose the chicanery concealed within the highest echelons of the American political aristocracy.

The poison pen of Polly Dearborn, an infamous Washington Post investigative reporter, has gone silent. When Polly is found hanging from her balcony in the Watergate apartments, Washington's elite and powerful rejoice - the Witch of Watergate is dead! But Polly's voice reaches beyond the grave, and her final articles may contain clues to some big secrets.

Homicide detective Fiona Fitzgerald, well-versed in the behind-the-scenes dealings of Washington, doesn't buy the suicide angle. But secret alliances between the police, the Post, and the mayor are making Fiona's job difficult. What's worse is that her new and unlikable partner, Charleen Evans, seems to be working against Fiona when she takes control of the evidence herself. All challenges aside, Fiona knows the political world and is determined to find the truth.

    "Great story-great narration!"

Audio books are new to me since I'm a visual reader and dangerous to listen in the car! Thoroughly enjoyed the book. Love murder mysteries. Narration superb. Great inflection in the voice. Clean, clear and crisp diction. Loved the character voices which helped in keeping the characters straight. Would I recommend this? Resounding YES!

    "Definitely glad I listened..."

I've not read Warren Adler before and found my first exposure has whetted my appetite to read more. The book is a little older and reminds one how technology has transformed our way of doing things. Some things, however, don't change...people have secrets they are motivated to protect, doing the right thing is sometimes a bit blurry and relationships are full of intrigue. The story kept my attention and was entertaining. The narrator was easy to listen to and enhanced the listening experience.

    "Engaging mystery"

This was your typical "who-dun-it" murder mystery/police procedural with all of the elements that make the genre so GREAT (and worth returning to over and over). There were enough red herrings and good banter between the partners to keep me interested.

The narrator did a good job with the performance, keeping me interested throughout (and able to distinguish characters by her voice work). As I look to return to this series, I hope she continues to give voice to the story.
