Publisher's summary

Forensic psychiatrist Kate Myers believes the killer of two teenage girls in Bigler County, California, is the same man who savagely murdered her twin sister over fifteen years ago. Working on sheer tenacity, she sets out to prove it.

Deputy Sheriff Ben Slater hides his personal pain behind the job, but Kate's arrival knocks his world on its axis. He wants to believe her wild theory, but the idea of a serial killer with this pathology is bizarre. Together, they work to find a killer whose roots began in a small town in Bigler County, but whose violence spread across the nation. Soon, the Janus-like killer, more monster than man, fixates on Kate and wants nothing more than to kill her "again."

Great "read"

loved the story line, thrilling. Wasn't too predictable. I would recommend and listen to again.

Good read and OK narration..

This was a book about “watcher” a serial killer that killed Kate’s twin sister, about 20 years ago. What I didn’t understand was why she told Slater about all the other victims and it wasn’t until almost 50% that she finally told him about Kassandra, her sister. Why? That didn’t make a bit of sense to me. And THEN when Slater didn’t tell her about his crazy ex-wife or his dead son Kate was PO’d at him and told herself she could forgive him but didn’t know if she could ever trust him again. What? What was the difference in the two things? His was just a personal matter while hers was part of a serial killer investigation. And THEN when she searched Sheriff Marconi’s office and found stuff and felt bad about not telling Slater, making excuses why she didn’t tell him. Really? WTH? This book was nowhere as good as book #2, which I read first.

Except for the above stupidity it really was a good story. I liked Kate and Slater, and Bauer. And I was sorry about Marconi. The last 15% was the most exciting. The race to find out who the killer was, putting all the clues together, getting a search warrant, racing to the killer’s house, searching the house and not finding him but knowing he was there somewhere. All of it happened so fast I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough.

Again, as with 90% of authors who don’t know how to write sexual tension or sexual attraction, there was none in this book either, unless you consider Slater thinking there was sexual tension between them enough. Then just a couple of sex scenes plopped into the book.

There was a swearing and the F-bomb was released 5 times.

As to the narrator: He has a very nice reading voice but he’s nowhere near as good and Sebastian Fields, who read the second book in this series, The Avenger... Mr. Forge had only a few emotions through the entire book, but not nearly enough. When someone would say something and the next line was “he or she laughed,” there was NEVER a laugh, and that tells me a lot about a narrator. He’s not the worst narrator I’ve ever listened to but he certainly doesn’t compare to a lot of them. I wouldn’t go out of my way for something else he read but I wouldn’t NOT listened to a book he narrated.

Love and mystery in a simple setting....

This book is very fast reading. If you are looking for a simple romance with a little mystery this is what you want.

I was hoping for more and was bored half way through. It would be good book to read on a short flight somewhere.

Watcher the best book for audible

I found that this story was not at all what I expected. I figured it would be another missing person suspense. Not so. The book involves a wide range of characters with believable personalities. It is a very suspenseful story with so gruesome details. Yet it also involves an unlikely couple that both have been through there own life devistations. This brings into play unexpected romance. Very much enjoyed this book in audible. Highly suggest.

Ok but a lot of the suspense didn’t make sense

Things got stupid when building suspense. Filler words used, I suppose to add word count. Overall ok but annoying.
