Publisher's summary

Shocking scenes of battle, unforgettable soldiers, heartbreaking betrayals. In this stunning, fast-paced novel, a ruthless future war unfolds in a 21st century nightmare: Los Angeles is a radioactive ruin; Europe lies bleeding; and Israel has been destroyed with millions slaughtered. A furious America fights to reclaim the devastated Holy Land. The Marines storm ashore; the U.S. Army does battle in a Biblical landscape. Hi-tech weaponry is useless and primitive hatreds flare.

Lt. Gen. Gary Flintlock Harris and his courageous warriors struggle for Americas survival - with ruthless enemies to their front and treachery at their rear. Islamist fanatics, crusading Christians, and unscrupulous politicians open the door to genocide.

The War After Armageddon thrusts the listener into a terrifying future in which all that remains is the horror of war - and the inspiration of individual heroism. A master at bringing to life the eternal soldier, Ralph Peters tells a riveting tale that honors those Americans who fight and sacrifice all for a dream of freedom.

"Compelling characters, thrilling small-unit battle scenes and the terrifying possibility that it could all come true make this a must read." (Publishers Weekly)

alternative fiction this is not.

If you were like me and are looking for another novel of an alternative world war 3 or post Armageddon fight that is based around military conflict this is definitely not the book you're looking for This is preaching religious based propagandaish almost about the fact that all religions should be treated as equal It's difficult to describe it and do justice to how poorly the publisher has described this novel I stuck it out till the end and it was absolutely not worth the wait The last hour of the book tries to wrap up what the first 10 setup and fails to do so in any meaningful way

So if you're looking for a battle of Christianity versus Islam where Christianity wins but turns out to be the bad guys and or our religious fanatic that believes that Islam should be wiped off the face of the planet then by all means read this book but with the exception of a decent reader there's nothing to see here

Disappointing

This was my first book by the author so I was not sure what to expect. I based my decision to purchase solely on the reviews. Clearly this a genre that just does not work for me. Although, not sure what genre it is really.

That being said I like sci-fi, war novels and books on post-apocalyptic events, so there is no reason this one should not have hit the mark - but it did not. I kept waiting for more details on the who, how and what, brought this story about and it just never happened, so it made a lot of the story pretty meaningless for me. There were some interesting characters, but they were not interesting enough to make the story a better listen.

The narrator was decent enough, but even he seemed confused by where this story was going. I found my self having to rewind often to try and make sense of what was happening, which helped a bit. In the end I just let it play. Somewhere along the way I think I figured out that my expectations kind of got in the way of the story. But it was a bit too late and I was done rewinding.

If you decide to go ahead with this one I suggest you take it for face and do not set the bar to high.
