Publisher's Summary

The ultimate duo - Nina Wilde and Eddie Chase - return in their ninth action-packed adventure.

Secrets from the past emerge to threaten archaeologist Nina Wilde and her husband, former SAS soldier Eddie Chase, when a Viking runestone is stolen by a murderous gang of raiders.

The stone holds the key to an ancient evil concealed in one of Norse mythology's holiest places: Valhalla.

Travelling to Sweden, Eddie and Nina find themselves in a race against time to locate the legendary hall of the Viking warriors - before rival powers claim its deadly contents for themselves. It is a quest that will force Eddie to revisit a dark chapter from his mercenary days that he has kept hidden from everyone...including his wife.

Only Nina and Eddie can prevent the unleashing of a primordial terror from the depths of the earth. But even if they succeed, will the cost be greater than either of them could have ever imagined...

"Fast moving and a bit cheesy"

But it was entertaining all the same and good for down time between heavy bouts of work.

The characterisation by Gareth Armstrong is brilliant - particularly his one for Eddie. Thanks Gareth, you brought the book to life.

    "Don't do it"

Oh my goodness when I want an action adventure I don't want to hear about an improbable couple deciding whether or not to have children.
The reader is an agony of clichéd accents which just ends up as a soup of voices ruining credibility.
They are meant to be in their 30s but talk in a completely old fashioned way and have as much sexual chemistry as a hamburger paper.
I can't spoil the end for you because I just couldn't bring myself to listen to it!

"Good entertainment for cleaning the house"

This audiobook is entertaining and brilliant for listening while cleaning the house or exercising. Doesn't require lots of thinking but makes the chores much more enjoyable.

    "Predictable fiction"

I wanted to like this story as I have read other Andy McDermott books and enjoyed them but I found this story line a little tired and predictable. Also found it hard to warm to the central characters as they felt very formulaic. Performance by Gareth Armstrong was good though.

Must not be tempted by action thrillers. More plot holes than a Swiss cheese

    "really enjoyable adventure story"

really enjoyable adventure story , a bit of a change from the usual sci-fi stories I listen to, but kept me still just as interested and wanting the next chapter. I kept thinking in my mind this was a pit like the Dirk Pitt series, but that's not a bad thing if the format successful.

    Story
    "Oh the accents..."
If this book wasn’t for you, who do you think might enjoy it more?

    The hard of hearing.

What will your next listen be?

Die of shame by Mark Billingham

How did the narrator detract from the book?

    By speaking

What character would you cut from The Valhalla Prophecy?

    The narrator

    Any additional comments?

Leaving the story aside (which wasn't for me), the narration was simply awful. Gareth Armstrong manages to butcher an accent from almost every heavily populated continent. The only thing missing from this atrocious performance was a Peruvian baddy who sounded like Dick Vandyke in Mary Poppins.
