Publisher's summary

A beautiful heiress has been found dead on a train. A playboy has been stabbed through the heart during a costume ball. An elderly woman suspects that she is being slowly poisoned to death. A prince fears for his reputation when his fiancée is embroiled in another man's murder. A forgotten recluse makes headlines after he is shot in the head.

Who but Agatha Christie could concoct such canny crimes? Who but Belgian detective Hercule Poirot could possibly solve them? It's a challenge to be met - in a triumph of detection.

An excellent listen

Classic Agatha Christie short stories with clever plots. What really sells this is the dramatic narration by David Suchet and Hugh Fraser. A delightful rainy day listen while knitting in stockinette--if the knitting is a complicated pattern you might drop a stitch or miss a clue!

Don't miss these

AC's short stories often are some of her best, and these are no exception. David Suchet narrates all but one, I think. He is so outstanding. IMHO, this is a must listen for all Christie fans,

Can't go wrong with Poirot!

I'm a sucker for David Suchet as Hercule Poirot. Hands down the best actor to portray that role. So naturally when I saw that he was narrating this audiobook, it was an instant buy for me.

Kind of fun knowing that the actor that plays Colonel Hastings was also in it. But! Not all of the short stories were narrated by Suchet. Not a total disappointment but it was weird that Hugh Fraser took on the Poirot role.

Anyway, these were fun short stories. The only complaint I had was that they kind of ended abruptly right before the next story fired up. They totally could have been longer. I really couldn't tell you one that really stood out to me from this set, but I did enjoy it for what it was worth.

Delightfully addictive; Suchet & Fraser!

I absolutely loved these short stories. My favorite one was the first one, "The Under Dog" which was narrated by Fraser -- it was odd at first to hear him narrate in Poirot's voice because he portrays Captain Hastings on the Poirot television series, but he did a pretty good job. And for me, there is only ONE Hercule Poirot and that is David Suchet. All these new interpretations of Poirot in the movies are ridiculous and insulting. Suchet really embodied the character and I can't imagine anyone else being a better Poirot. I wish all Poirot audiobooks were narrated by these two! This audiobook made my daily commute more enjoyable; it really transported me to a different time and I was engaged in the mysteries and quirky characters of the book, which both Suchet and Fraser gave such life to; I was impressed by all the different voices they could do. My one recommendation would be to slow down the speed of the audio; when listened to at normal speed, a lot of details can be missed and in an Agatha Christie mystery, you don't want to overlook any details!

A thoroughly enjoyable read!

I absolutely love the short stories of Hercule Poirot, especially the earlier years with Captain Hastings. It's really nice to read about Hercule Poirot's antics in vignettes, rather than reading a novel where Poirot doesn't even appear until halfway through.

Performance AMAZING stories lacking very much

The reader was absolutely amazing. I will have to find more books read by him! But the story... So I'm honestly really hoping that this is an abridged version or something because at least 3 of these stories were exceedingly LAME. I love Poirot stories, his character, everything. But for some reason in at least 3 of the stories there is NO deduction accomplished! Literally the last story I listened to Poirot is called in in the middle of the night to help discover who stole some papers of national importance. Poirot looks the scene over and then begins to interview the guests. After 3-4 interviews a young lady comes in and asks if the papers were to be returned within 10 minutes if there would be no fuss made, and she could remain anonymous. Poirot agrees, she leaves. The owner of the document returns, Poirot tells him the case is solved and he is leaving. AND THE STORY ENDS! There was no deduction, there was no hunting for clues, the story just ended! And the same thing happened in at least 2 other stories. Like I said I really hope this is a poorly done abridged version or something, because there is no mystery!

Great Collection

If you're a rabid Poirot fan like me, this is a true gem! Many of the tv series are based this collection of AC's short stories.

I prefer the Novels

I like the short stories but I prefer the novels. But I love to know what Poirot is up to and his little quirks. Therefore I am trying to read all the Poirot stories, For a first time read I would recommend Death on the Nile it was my first and is still my favourite.

LOVED IT!

David Suchet and Hugh Fraser are great together. I can see why they were casted in the TV series. And of course, Agatha Christie always hits the spot.
