Publisher's summary

Grim Reaper Charley Davidson is back in the 12th installment of Darynda Jones' New York Times best-selling paranormal series, The Trouble with Twelfth Grave.

Ever since Reyes Farrow escaped from a hell dimension in which Charley Davidson accidentally trapped him, the son of Satan has been brimstone-bent on destroying the world his heavenly Brother created. His volatile tendencies have put Charley in a bit of a pickle. But that's not the only briny vegetable on her plate. While trying to domesticate the feral being that used to be her husband, she also has to deal with her everyday life of annoying all manner of beings - some corporeal, some not so much - as she struggles to right the wrongs of society. Only this time she's not uncovering a murder. This time she's covering one up.

Add to that her new occupation of keeping a start-up PI venture - the indomitable mystery-solving team of Amber Kowalski and Quentin Rutherford - out of trouble and dealing with the Vatican's inquiries into her beloved daughter, and Charley is on the brink of throwing in the towel and becoming a professional shopper. Or possibly a live mannequin. But when someone starts attacking humans who are sensitive to the supernatural world, Charley knows it's time to let loose her razor-sharp claws. Then again, her number one suspect is the dark entity she's loved for centuries. So the question becomes: Can she tame the unruly beast before it destroys everything she's worked so hard to protect?

Wish I could give this a higher rating

I don't know if it's just me, but I'm losing interest in this series. There was so much going on and the story has gotten so complicated, that it was hard to follow. I think it says something when the part I liked best were the quotes at the beginning of the chapters!

Also disappointing was the disconnect between Charley and Reyes. I don't want to give too much away so I'll leave it at that.

The cliffhanger at the end will have me checking the next book out of the library to see if I want to buy it.

As usual, Lorelei's narration was great! It was the best part about the book.

Not sure...

Adventurous story with Charlie once again leading the way. This time Reyes is the one afflicted with an internal battle. Charlie once again solves multiple mysteries. Though the story was entertaining it felt the overall story didn’t advance the overall theme of the storyline until maybe at the very end. It’s a story that I’m not sure that I would recommend to a friend or not or listen to again. The narrator did a good job!

More Charlie Mania

I really love this series- it's on my first tier of books to buy. Be aware that this is not a standalone book. This is not a criticism, just info. There's a lot of dialogue and action that is leaving me behind because I didn't have time to reread/listen to the series before release, but you can be sure I will happily start over at the beginning. The series is that good. Charlie comes off as so goofy when you first start the series, then you start to hear the underlying story, the real suppressed emotion and issues that constantly lay simmering. I guess that's what happens when you're the Grim Reaper in the flesh. Also a God.

I really appreciate the Tshirts and memes at the beginning of each chapter - I find myself sharing them with friends. I have to watch where I'm listening because, guaranteed, I'll have to LOL. Jones does an incredible job of balancing the laughs with the struggle, tension and heartaches. And King's narration is superb! Recommend this book and the whole series.

Missed the Mark - Most disappointing in the series

I am a Charlie fan, but this book really missed the mark. Much of it was retelling the previous 11 books and the ending was disappointing twice over. I have loved this
series but not this one, and can't understand the high reviews from other readers. Hoping book 13 redeems the series.

Darynda Jones does it again!

I absolutely love the Charley Davidson series. The characters are full of life and Charley is such a snarky character... you have to love her! There is never a dull moment and I usually have a smile on my face as I listen. Lorelei King does a magnificent job on the characters voices and her enthusiasm always keeps your interested. Darynda keep pumping them out, I can't wait to see how Charley gets out of her new predicament!

I'm about to jump off these cliffhangers!

The Charley Davidson series rotates around in my Top 3 series. I'm a huge fan. So giving this review actually makes me feel sad. My first issue is with the length. This novel was way too short. It made the story seem crowded. There was a lot that D.J. was trying to cover in the short amount of pages. Just an FYI, we don't mind longer books. Write until your hearts desire. There are times when I complain on authors dragging stuff out and not cutting unnecessay parts. I have the opposite reaction here. If you want to have a complex book with multiple subplots then give us some bang for our books turn in those extra pages you edited out. We won't complain.

Charley is funny and willing to do the right thing as always. She spends this book completing cases on haunted houses and solving a mobster's murder. Those parts of the story were a bit interesting. However, for a Grim Reaper and Former Goddess she has trouble seeing the big picture. The main storyline with her finding and capturing her husband a.k.a God's Brother is put on the back burner for most of the novel.

Reyes isn't acting himself. [His inner God has taken the wheel and doesn't seem as friendly as the Reyes we've fallen in love with.] Just being honest, this portion of the story ( the main story) was done poorly. Reyes or whichever name you want to call him spends his time following Charley around like a jealous puppy. I mean the exact same way that Reyes did in the first few books. [ Even down to the spirit sex ] This was a good opportunity to have Reyes be a true son of Satan... he could do these despicable things that needed to be done without a human-limited conscious. Instead, we get this preschool scavenger hunt where the outcome is soooo obvious that I was stunned. I mean that. It was the first thing I thought would happen, so naturally I said to my other self, "That can't be it, that's too essy, there has to be something else"... Well self.... there isnt. The obvious conclusion to the Reyes drama ruined my day like a menstrual cycle on your honeymoon.

We also have this storyline with Perry, her tattoo artist friend. It sucks. Perry is such a forgettable character. The only thing that would make her interesting to me is if she died. I couldn't care two cents about her. Yet, we are forced to listen to her dilemma instead of focusing on Reyes. That part of the story moves into something more interesting after the Perry portion is done. If you wanted to edit something out. Edit Perry. She was dead weight.

Charley's communication with THE GOD is horribly basic and uninspiring. That should have been a major event, but I came out of it feeling like 'The God' was a douche and Charley was an idiot. Then I got nervous because if God reads this book he might say he didn't agree. Then I'd be the douche. :-)

I also wish there was more interaction with Strawberry Shortcake. She is hilariously creepy.

Let's get back to Charley. She makes these decisions as if she were only human. But as a Grim Reaper and Goddess, shouldn't her thought process and decisions take her beyond thinking of only the humans in her own family. What if no one ever died? How many people would roam the earth now? The isn't enough space in the earth to manage that. As a Grim Reaper, she should understand the concept and reasoning for death better.

The audible narrator, Lorelli King, was awesome as always. Excuse my typos, writing this while in line waiting to get through TSA at the airport. No time to spell check my autocorrect :p

Another hit!

Just like the rest of her books, Darynda Jones left me to wait out the long months in anticipation of the next one.

If you've never read these books, start in order. They just keep getting better and this book is no exception. I found myself hoping the book would never end. Sadly, it does. This is my AUDIBLE 20 REVIEW SWEEPSTAKES ENTRY
