But now, with no one to trust but himself, can Jake stop the terrorist from destroying what is most precious to the free world? "Great book"
Where does The Toymaker rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This is a really good book. It is reminiscent of Brett Battles Jonathan Quinn series.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

This book is full of action from the very beginning a few surprises, a bit predictable at times but for the most part very good.

What about Scott Brick’s performance did you like?

Scott Brock could read the phone book and make it exciting!

    Any additional comments?

I look forward to my next purchase which will be the third in this series Breach of Power.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

I'm someone who is constantly listening to a book but I've made it half way though this one and I haven't listened in over a week. I'm finding it boring, and don't care about the characters. I'm giving up.

Would you ever listen to anything by Chuck Barrett again?

    No!

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

    Not really

"Ooops! I started with book 2."

Spy vs. Spy vs. Spy. Got a kick out of part of the story being set in the tiny town where I live currently. The descriptions were even accurate. Like the "toy" maker premise. Just wasn't enough to equal a more-than-mediocre read.

    "boring!"
Would you try another book from Chuck Barrett and/or Scott Brick?

i've listened to scott brick before and didn't find him bad, but this time i couldn't separate the characters. poor reading or maybe as bored as i was? i couldn't finish this one at all. thank goodness for audible's return policy.

What do you think your next listen will be?

i'm thinking historical. i don't know if i'm up for another unthrilling "thriller."

How did the narrator detract from the book?

his character voices were so subtle i lost who was speaking.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

i suppose as it was well-rated,but i just didn't enjoy the toymaker.

    "Dreadful"

If this was a paperback, I'd have thrown it across the room. How does this author get published?!

I can't imagine who would give this book high ratings. Dull, drags, story is chopped up, characters are juvenile, Scott Brick's performance is lame (not the first time I've encountered his attempt to "dramatize" that just fails.)

What would have made The Toymaker better?

An actual storyline would have made this better. The author jumps around willy nilly and hardly makes any sense. Descriptors are juvenile and do not even sketch the scene for the reader. I wanted to like this- but it was just so bad.

What could Chuck Barrett have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

    Write a full story

Would you be willing to try another one of Scott Brick’s performances?

    absolutely not

What character would you cut from The Toymaker?

    none

    Any additional comments?

    no

    "TRULY AWFUL SOUND"
Would you try another book from Chuck Barrett and/or Scott Brick?

    MAYBE

Has The Toymaker turned you off from other books in this genre?

    NO

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Every "S" sounded like "ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ". I guess the microphone used to record was of poor quality. The BUZZ was so annoying that I turned off the book after just a few paragraphs. I have heard other books by the same author, and they were ok. This one was not acceptable.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

    disgust

    Any additional comments?

Such poor quality recording should not be acceptable to Audible.

    "Solid spy novel!"

After a steady diet of fantasy I needed to change venues- this book was very satisfying. Good character development, believable storyline- emphasis on technology was not as overwhelming, woven well into the storyline. Overall left me with an appetite for another in the series.

What did you love best about The Toymaker?

Got this title during a sale. Not the type of book I usually gravitate toward, but glad I got it. Didn't realize until I'd listened to the entire book that it had a prequel.

What did you like best about this story?

Loved the technology used in the story:)

"Book is OK, but the narration kills it."
How did the narrator detract from the book?

Scott Brick is rated highly and I don't understand why. He OVER enunciates EVERYTHING! To the point where a character could be making coffee and the narration makes it seem like an arduous task that required months of contemplation. This eventually makes you miss the highlights of the story because there is no contrast in the telling. Its so bad, that it makes me feel dumb for tolerating the narration to get through the book.
