Publisher's Summary

More than 40 years after their release from the notorious "Hanoi Hilton", three American prisoners of war return to Vietnam to make peace with their most brutal former captor, a guard whom they've dubbed "Mr. Wonderful". The US State Department hopes reconciliation will help cement a major trade agreement between Washington and the Vietnamese. But when Mr. Wonderful is found murdered, the three ex-POWs are accused of the crime, and the multibillion-dollar deal threatens to unravel. Enter pilot, still-aspiring Buddhist, and former military assassin Cordell Logan.

Working with a newly formed covert intelligence unit that answers directly to the White House, Logan is dispatched to Hanoi to identify the real killer as the trade agreement threatens to implode. What he soon uncovers proves to be a vexing and increasingly dangerous mystery. Who really killed the guard and why? Unlocking the answers will test every ounce of Logan's ingenuity and resolve while risking his life as never before.

Like its three predecessors in the Cordell Logan mystery series, Flat Spin, Fangs Out, and Voodoo Ridge, The Three-Nine Line is a classic, pulse-pounding pause resister. Legions of loyal listeners and critics alike have hailed the humor and full-throttle pacing. The Three-Nine Line may well be the best yet.

"Another great addition to this Series!"

I always look forward to the new Cordell Logan books . This is a very good and witty mystery series. Cordell Logan is a flight instructor who keeps getting invovled in solving murders due to his former black ops background. I have listened to all four novels to date and loved them all. The narrator, Ray Porter is very gifted and makes the stories even better.
If you want a good series to listen to I highly recommend this one.

What did you like best about this story?

Ray Porter's narration is perfect for what you will envision Cordell as looking and sounding like, so that is a great part of the adventure in listening. The story however, is just a solid, easy, constant move forward toward a logical and satisfying end. The action is not so much "beat em up, shoot em up", as it is a chase for the truth.

    Any additional comments?

As with the three prior books, this was an easy and instantly captivating listen. The summary is good and simple so not much more needs to be offered. I will note that the descriptions while Logan is in Vietnam, and throughout all of the books for that matter, are not particularly flowery and protracted for pages, but they do conjure images in your imagination in perfect harmony to the story. The plot is well done without any crazy contortions in order to make the story line work and the final solution is plausible and logical while being a little twist you may not see coming. This is a very well done story by an author that seems to truly have the ability to write good stories that capture and hold the reader.

Another terrific book by David Freed.. And another terrific reading by Ray Porter! I suggest every author to use Ray Porter specifically for any and all books from here on out! Even books that need a female narrator! Ray Porter can bring any book to life! The story was outstanding and coupled with Porter makes for one hell of a night of listening..

Ray Porter is outstanding. He has the range, theatrical tenor and heart felt emotion to make an audible book come alive. I was very glad to see him back after book 2.

    "Cordell Logan is Back Again!"
What did you love best about The Three-Nine Line?

That this book has the freshness of Flat Spin. It made me remember why I first got hooked to this series.

What did you like best about this story?

The sarcasm of Cordell Logan, as always...lol

What about Ray Porter’s performance did you like?

Ray Porter knocked it out the park again. I can imagine anyone else reading as Cordell Logan. He does all the voices so effortlessly. I hope David Freed never switches him out again.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Hearing the torture stories from the POWs and the after effects. I would like to think that David Freed exaggerated the tales, but I don't think he did.

    Any additional comments?

It did have a slight continuity issue. In this book, Cordell still has his Alpha backup gun, but in Voodoo Ridge, he threw that gun into the ocean.

    "Solid mystery"
Is there anything you would change about this book?

    No

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Three-Nine Line?

I love the interaction between Logan and his landlady.

What about Ray Porter’s performance did you like?

No one could do it better.

Do you think The Three-Nine Line needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

    It has one.

    Any additional comments?

I would highly recommend this book. It will make any chore pleasant. I don't recommend any of these books without Ray Porter.

    "Great hero, superb reading"
What did you like best about this story?

I love the character Cordell Logan, he's one of the best heroes I've ever read/heard, funny, self-deprecating, witty, wise and wry. The landlady and the cat and the Duck are all brilliant flashes of colour in the story.

What about Ray Porter’s performance did you like?

Whoever chose Ray Porter to narrate David Freed's books was inspired, he IS Cordell Logan. He brings such humour and reality to the words that I have a hard time stopping listening. The plot was good, but really, I just want to hear more about the character as portrayed by Porter.

    Any additional comments?

The plot was fine although on that front I've enjoyed other of Freed's books more, and I missed the Ruptured Duck from a lot of the book, but really, I love this series very much and can't wait for the next one.

""Soul meets soul on lover's lips""

Another great Cordell Logan story from David Freed. This time the smart talking, fast action owner of the Ruptured Duck leaves his 'plane behind him to look into the killing of a sadistic Vietnamese ex prison camp guard as he attempts to rescue two Americans likely to be accused of the murder. But never fear, his big hearted landlady and Kiddyot, the disdainful cat, also make delightful appearances.
All is superbly voiced by the excellent Roy Porter.
