    "NOT one of his best!"

Most of his books have been very very good & exciting listening --- but this one seem to drag for me ! A lot of dialogue that was boring.

I will still keep listen --- especially with Scott Brick as the reader!!

Cussler is definitely one of my favorite authors. This wasn't the best in the Isaac Bell series, but was by no means dissapointing.

"Gentleman Detective Story with Elegance & Romance"
What did you love best about The Thief?

An interesting twist on the history of talking film.

In general I love Isaac Bell's character that always displays integrity, being a gentleman yet will just not give up attempting to solve who is at the center of the crime.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Always Isaac Bell in all the novels thus far.

Which character – as performed by Scott Brick – was your favorite?

Very big problem - I simply love all the depictions by Scott - one of my favorite readers.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

The more nasty the villans are the more difficult it is to hear or read.

    "Another Great Clive Cussler Story"

Isaac Bell of the Van Dorn Detective agency has another exciting adventure trying to protect an amazing invention by a German scientist. There are the usual dangerous situations and close calls. Loved it and love Scott Brick as narrator. Love Clive Cussler stories.

    "Standard Cussler Fare"

I like to listen to books by Clive Cussler and those who co-write with him. The combination of these authors and Scott Brick make for some interesting listening. I have found that I can "take" Cussler books with moderation and in small doses. Took much Cussler for me can lead to disinterest.

    Story
    "Weakest Entry in the Series"
Would you try another book from Clive Cussler and Justin Scott and/or Scott Brick?

Yes. Cussler (and co-authors) usually write entertaining enough yarns. Brick was a good narrator.

What was most disappointing about Clive Cussler and Justin Scott ’s story?

The plot did not really go anywhere. Though it lept in the beginning, it tapered off and became more about movie making, which was interesting enough, and secret stealing, and celeb sitings (as characters in the novel), but the story was so slow, hesitant, and meandering that it was difficult to keep following as my mind would flow to something else while my mp3 kept playing.

This is to say that it did not hold my interest.

What about Scott Brick’s performance did you like?

He has a good strong voice, he reads well, and has enough inflections to help one's ear discern a change in character's. He does this without falling into the trap of being too showy or theatrical thus making the listening experience about him instead of the novel.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Thief?

I would have sent this back to the author for a total re-write. You want to make a parlor mystery Hollywood novel, or a spy filled adventure chase? Make up your mind, choose one, and stick with it.

    Any additional comments?

I love this series featuring Isaac Bell, and would recommend any other book in that series in the place of this one.

    "Another excellent Bell story"
Where does The Thief rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

If you have enjoyed the previous Bell stories then you will enjoy this one. I really love the time period these books are in. If you enjoy Cussler or Bell get the book

What did you like best about this story?

Main character and competition with the villian. Really good chess match.

Have you listened to any of Scott Brick’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

All of Scott's performances are good IMO.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

People may think I am crazy but I really enjoyed the Epilogue. Really was a nice ending to the book.

    "Good, but not great"
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, I believe that fans of Clive Cussler or the Isaac Bell series will at least mildly enjoy this work even if it is not up to par to many of his other works. The villain in this story is far to unbelievable and this takes away from the realism of the story. As a fan of this series I was a little disappointed, but it is still worth reading.

If you’ve listened to books by Clive Cussler and Justin Scott before, how does this one compare?

It is probably the weakest in the Isaac Bell series to date.

Have you listened to any of Scott Brick’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Scott Brick does another great job as the narrator and seems to have the Cussler books down to an art when it comes to reading them.
