Publisher's summary

#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • In a plush Virginia office, a rich, angry old man is furiously rewriting his will. With his death just hours away, Troy Phelan wants to send a message to his children, his ex-wives, and his minions—a message that will touch off a vicious legal battle and transform dozens of lives.

Nate O'Riley is a high-octane Washington litigator who's lived too hard, too fast, for too long. His second marriage in a shambles, and he is emerging from his fourth stay in rehab armed with little more than his fragile sobriety, good intentions, and resilient sense of humor. Returning to the real world is always difficult, but this time it's going to be murder.

Rachel Lane is a young woman who chose to give her life to God, who walked away from the modern world with all its strivings and trappings and encumbrances, and went to live and work with a primitive tribe of Indians in the deepest jungles of Brazil.

In a story that mixes legal suspense with a remarkable adventure, their lives are forever altered by the startling secret of The Testament.

Critic reviews

"Grisham's smart use of the suspense novel to explore questions of being and faith puts him squarely in the footsteps of Dickens and Graham Greene." (Publishers Weekly)

John Grisham is best known for his fast-paced legal thrillers and mysteries, many of which have been adapted for television and film. Because he’s so prolific and has been writing for decades, it can be difficult to know where to begin when selecting a title from his impressive back catalog. And Grisham is definitely a jack-of-all-trades: he’s written not only legal thrillers, but nonfiction, a series for kids, some humorous novels, and recently, a new mystery series outside of the legal thriller genre. To help you decide which Grisham gem to download next, we’ve compiled a list of the very best.

Fabulous!

I loved this book. Of course Frank Muller is the best narrator I've ever heard, but this is also John Grisham at his best. A definite keeper!

This is a Wild & Wonderful "Come to Jesus Story"

Many reviewers said they thought this was one of Grisham's best, and I agree -- in terms of how the story line is developed and plays out. The ending is somewhat shocking or stunning and that makes it a book so worth reading! Great characters in this book and a terrific tale of adventure, mission, legal double dealings and more.
That said, I did not always care for Muller's tone of voice and inflection. The narration just didn't seem to fit with the story like I thought it should. But that's a small complaint for having just finished a really great read!

Fulfilling

Frank Muller is one of the best narrators I'd listened to. This is one of the best books from John Grisham after Pelican Brief. Great book!

great book

Really enjoyed the book. It held my attention all the way through. It was believable and I enjoyed the factual information about the indians. I learned something while I was being entertained.

A great adventure with an unlikely hero

If we're given a third chance to do the right thing, would we? The main character is challenged with moral dilemas, physical obstacles and external pressures, and must make choices along the way. The path exposes us to fantastic characters, beautiful and far-reaching landscapes, and fascinating "good vs evil" plotlines. There are at least three main themes running through the book, including the influence a dying and eccentric billionaire can have from the grave. Great reading - enjoy.

Be entertained and learn about another culture

I have not read a Grisham novel in a long time. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would highly recommend it. I especially liked learning about another culture and the effect it had on the main character. The narrator was perfect and portrayed the various characters beautifully.

Another Fabulous Grisham

I enjoyed the multiple story lines as it kept the story intricate and unpredictable. The characters were easy to follow and well developed. The narator was a bit droll and bland but the story was exciting enough to keep listening.
