Publisher's summary

#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • In a plush Virginia office, a rich, angry old man is furiously rewriting his will. With his death just hours away, Troy Phelan wants to send a message to his children, his ex-wives, and his minions—a message that will touch off a vicious legal battle and transform dozens of lives.

Nate O'Riley is a high-octane Washington litigator who's lived too hard, too fast, for too long. His second marriage in a shambles, and he is emerging from his fourth stay in rehab armed with little more than his fragile sobriety, good intentions, and resilient sense of humor. Returning to the real world is always difficult, but this time it's going to be murder.

Rachel Lane is a young woman who chose to give her life to God, who walked away from the modern world with all its strivings and trappings and encumbrances, and went to live and work with a primitive tribe of Indians in the deepest jungles of Brazil.

In a story that mixes legal suspense with a remarkable adventure, their lives are forever altered by the startling secret of The Testament.

Critic reviews

"Grisham's smart use of the suspense novel to explore questions of being and faith puts him squarely in the footsteps of Dickens and Graham Greene." (Publishers Weekly)

John Grisham is best known for his fast-paced legal thrillers and mysteries, many of which have been adapted for television and film. Because he’s so prolific and has been writing for decades, it can be difficult to know where to begin when selecting a title from his impressive back catalog. And Grisham is definitely a jack-of-all-trades: he’s written not only legal thrillers, but nonfiction, a series for kids, some humorous novels, and recently, a new mystery series outside of the legal thriller genre. To help you decide which Grisham gem to download next, we’ve compiled a list of the very best.

The Testament

An excellent story and very gripping. I enjoyed the suspense and the adventure. John Grisham excels in weaving the story around the legalese. Faith gets a new meaning after reading/listening to this book. The naraater did a very good job. The narration was quite dramatic and thoroughly enjoyable. This book is worth every cent you paid.

A master outdoes himself

The performance is spectacular. But the magic of The Testament is the “feel-like-you-were-there” account of the adventures in the Brazilian tropical rain forest looking for the inspiring heir to an enormous estate. The young lawyer has this amazing experience in an account that rings true to all of us who have done medicine or missionary work or both in the tropics. Mr Grisham, thank you for this magnificent tribute to the rainy heart of the world, its people, and those who love them.

More than what I expected

A story of finding faith and redemption. I found myself laughing at parts and at other times saddened.
The book exceeded my expectations and is now one of my favorites.

The Testament By John Grisham

My son told me to get this book. he said it didn't grab him at first but I know why the character Troy reminded him of my ex who treated him badly. But he kept going and he loved it as much as I did. I love John Grisham and now it will be my please to give my daughter this book for her birthday since we are all three fans. thank you for this wonderful vivid story. I have always wanted to write about my life and ready this has given me the strength to do it. I don't care about money but hope someone could learn through my mistakes and those around me. Money and greed are the root of all evil . My ex could never worship anything but a dollar.
I instead found love with a man not wealthy in anything but his love for me. I also find myself praying more . absolutely love this book . At last something to read with a powerful story and no blood or murder.
