Publisher's summary

#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • In a plush Virginia office, a rich, angry old man is furiously rewriting his will. With his death just hours away, Troy Phelan wants to send a message to his children, his ex-wives, and his minions—a message that will touch off a vicious legal battle and transform dozens of lives.

Nate O'Riley is a high-octane Washington litigator who's lived too hard, too fast, for too long. His second marriage in a shambles, and he is emerging from his fourth stay in rehab armed with little more than his fragile sobriety, good intentions, and resilient sense of humor. Returning to the real world is always difficult, but this time it's going to be murder.

Rachel Lane is a young woman who chose to give her life to God, who walked away from the modern world with all its strivings and trappings and encumbrances, and went to live and work with a primitive tribe of Indians in the deepest jungles of Brazil.

In a story that mixes legal suspense with a remarkable adventure, their lives are forever altered by the startling secret of The Testament.

Critic reviews

"Grisham's smart use of the suspense novel to explore questions of being and faith puts him squarely in the footsteps of Dickens and Graham Greene." (Publishers Weekly)

Featured Article: The Essential John Grisham in Audio

John Grisham is best known for his fast-paced legal thrillers and mysteries, many of which have been adapted for television and film. Because he’s so prolific and has been writing for decades, it can be difficult to know where to begin when selecting a title from his impressive back catalog. And Grisham is definitely a jack-of-all-trades: he’s written not only legal thrillers, but nonfiction, a series for kids, some humorous novels, and recently, a new mystery series outside of the legal thriller genre. To help you decide which Grisham gem to download next, we’ve compiled a list of the very best.

My First Grisham Book

The story flowed easily for the most part. The characters were all interesting and well developed. The narration was spot on. The ending was rather disappointing and bland.

Another Grisham Re-read

Wonderful "listen" with Frank Muller as narrator. Read this book as hardback years ago but now listening to Grisham's oldies.

I love this book. This is my second time listening to it and I loved it just as much the second time around. Cannot say enough good things about it. Gripping from start to finish!

I see a spin off...

Any additional comments?

I was a bit apprehensive at first, I just wasn't sure this book was gonna hold me. But as I went further into the book I see that this book gives possibilities for many different routes of spin offs for Nate's character. The book had just enough suspense to hold me all the way till the end. Now I want to see more of what Nate will do with his future!

Good book

was another good book, different from most of his other books, including medical problems, and a fair amount of church and prayer.

Money Can Ruin Us

Although there was a great detail of lawyer involvement in executing wills, the story was very enjoyable. Don’t let the first chapter turn you off. It’s important to the story.

Moving story

I read this book many years ago and had been wanting to re-visit the adventure again. It did not disappoint. It took me on an emotional ride all over again.

Sad That It’s Over

I loved this story. It’s my second time around, still just as fascinating as the first. Narration is key to this story, it is absolutely perfect. I have only recommended two books, this is the first on my list. The story lingers long after the book is over.

Do not pass this book by!!!

The narrator is everything!!!!! The book is beautifully written but the narrator made it LIVE! Couldn’t put it down and finished it in a few days. What an incredible writer and definitely tops all other Grisham books. I know every reader will leave with a warm heart for each of the characters. First book I’ve ever read that wrote about God without shoving Him down your throat. Enjoy!!!!!
