Publisher's summary

In a nondescript office building in suburban Maryland, the firm Hendley Associates does a profitable business in stocks, bonds, and international currencies, but its true mission is quite different: to identify and locate terrorist threats, and then deal with them, in whatever manner necessary. Established with the knowledge of President John Patrick Ryan, "the Campus" is always on the lookout for promising new talent, its recruiters scattered throughout the armed forces and government agencies - and three men are about to cross its radar.

The first is Dominic Caruso, a rookie FBI agent, barely a year out of Quantico, whose decisive actions resolve a particularly brutal kidnap/murder case. The second is Caruso's brother, Brian, a Marine captain just back from his first combat action in Afghanistan, and already a man to watch. And the third is their cousin...a young man named Jack Ryan, Jr.

Jack was raised on intrigue. As his father moved through the ranks of the CIA and then into the White House, Jack received a life course in the world and the way it operates from agents, statesmen, analysts, Secret Service men, and black ops specialists such as John Clark and Ding Chavez. He wants to put it all to work now, but when he knocks on the front door of "the Campus," he finds that nothing has prepared him for what he is about to encounter. For it is indeed a different world out there - and in here. And it is about to become far more dangerous.

Why?

So I absolutely love Tom Clancy's novels. However, the narrator can completely ruin the book. This is exactly what happened here. Why would you have a narrator who reads action books as if it was poetry? Stephen Hoye narrates as if he is reading gay erotica. This is more of an action adventure / suspense book, not Lance snuggled up to his lover Rupert. The only reason I finished the book is because I want to make it through the entire series.

Great Book.

This book is a typical Tom Clancy book. Great detail, wonderful plot and very interesting story.

Bad editing

Many places in the book repeats itself by a sentence or 2. At first I wondered if I had hit the 30 sec rewind. But, the more it happened, I realized it was all in the editing. Otherwise it was a good reading!

11 passages repeat

This was my least favorite narrator of all the Tom Clancy books. His performance seemed cheesy compared to other books on tape performances. It should be redone by someone else.
My main beef is that 11 times in the story the editors spliced the reading poorly so those passages were repeated. Some were longer than others but 11 times?!? An editor should have listened to it before purchases were made on Audible. Audible should have it reread with s better narrator AND better editors.

Good story, sloppy production

I enjoyed the story it was fun to hear Jack Ryan Junior get set up to continue the series. The person reading the book did a fine job. However, the production team was amazingly sloppy. There are about 10 places where they repeat the last 10 seconds. This is just a miss in audio production. Didn’t anyone actually listen to the product before they shipped it?

Very Poor Audio Editing

While the story is interesting, listening is not. This audio book contains many repeated sentences which take away from being immersed in the story line.

Did anyone edit the Audio?

Book was good but I lost count of how many times the narrator lost track of his reading and repeated himself. He also would not even pause between script changes and it would get confusing until you realized it's a new scene. Not a good narrator.

Glitchy book

I normally can tolerate an audio book with a glitch here and there but this one annoyed the heck out of me. Some of the issue was the actual recording in where many times it would replay a small part over. Many other times the story would just stop out of the blue. I would have to close the app and restart. Very frustrating. Had there been another full length book available I would have returned this one and tried the other book.

The story itself is pretty good. I enjoy the new characters and look forward to where the writer will take the storyline.
