Publisher's summary

In a nondescript office building in suburban Maryland, the firm Hendley Associates does a profitable business in stocks, bonds, and international currencies, but its true mission is quite different: to identify and locate terrorist threats, and then deal with them, in whatever manner necessary. Established with the knowledge of President John Patrick Ryan, "the Campus" is always on the lookout for promising new talent, its recruiters scattered throughout the armed forces and government agencies - and three men are about to cross its radar.

The first is Dominic Caruso, a rookie FBI agent, barely a year out of Quantico, whose decisive actions resolve a particularly brutal kidnap/murder case. The second is Caruso's brother, Brian, a Marine captain just back from his first combat action in Afghanistan, and already a man to watch. And the third is their cousin...a young man named Jack Ryan, Jr.

Jack was raised on intrigue. As his father moved through the ranks of the CIA and then into the White House, Jack received a life course in the world and the way it operates from agents, statesmen, analysts, Secret Service men, and black ops specialists such as John Clark and Ding Chavez. He wants to put it all to work now, but when he knocks on the front door of "the Campus," he finds that nothing has prepared him for what he is about to encounter. For it is indeed a different world out there - and in here. And it is about to become far more dangerous.

Excellent book editing errors in reading

Good story typical Tom Clancy novel. But during the reading, the recording skips backwards many times.

Good story, weak performance

A decent story read in a manner which makes everyone sound aloof and disinterested. It's actually tedious to listen to, to the point that I had difficulty figuring out which character was talking.

Not one of Clancy's best

Is there anything you would change about this book?

The story is the set up for future story lines of this lineage. The book doesn't have enough story line in it to keep it interesting. This was my least favorite Clancy book. It was just plain boring in spots.

What do you think your next listen will be?

I have moved to The Killing Angels by Michael Shaara.

What about Stephen Hoye’s performance did you like?

He did the best he could with just mediocre material.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

The only way this should be made into a movie is if it is combined with the sequel to this book. Otherwise everyone in the theater will fall asleep.

Any additional comments?

Clearly not one of Clancy's best but then again he wrote many other wonderful books.

Trchnical issue with recording

The last sentence of each chapter/track was repeated as the first sentence of the next chapter/track. This is a bit distracting since chapters and tracks are not aligned i.e the repeats occur in the middle of thoughts.

Good story but Rushed

Not a good stand alone book compared to the rest of the series to this point. The reader is left on without proper ending as the main character completes a mission and rushes home. Overall did not feel like any other book in the series to this point. This was a good way to move on from the last book jumping to Jack JR but I wish the writing style would have stayed the same. The audio preformance was terrible as it often repeated the same line twice. Of all the books this one would not get a second listen to unless I decided to run through the whole series again.

The teeth of the tiger

Liked to read it but too much killing without remorse. Action is too fast to be practical.

Worth a listen

Good, but hearing "Bro" over and over got tiresome. Not Clancy's best book ever.
