Publisher's summary

Nate Overbay, a former soldier suffering from PTSD and ALS, goes to an 11th-floor bank and climbs out the bathroom window onto the ledge, ready to end it all. But as he’s steeling himself to jump, a crew of gunmen bursts into the bank and begins viciously shooting employees and customers. With nothing to lose, Nate climbs back inside, confronts the robbers, and with his military training, starts taking them out, one by one. The last man standing leaves Nate with a cryptic warning: “He will make you pay in ways you can’t imagine.” Soon enough, Nate learns what this means.

He is kidnapped by Pavlo, a savage Ukrainian mobster and mastermind of the failed heist. Now blocked from getting into the bank vault to retrieve the critical item inside, Pavlo gives Nate a horrifying ultimatum: Either break in and acquire the item or watch Pavlo slowly kill the people Nate loves most - his estranged wife, Janie, and his teenaged daughter, Cielle. Nate lost them both when he came back from Iraq broken and confused. Now he’s got one chance to protect the people he loves, even if it’s the last thing he is able to do.

Keeps you guessing

I enjoyed this book. The narration wasn't bad and it really kept you guessing what was going to happen next.

Doing things the right way.

Despite the melancholy manner of the narrator, this story is a grabber. A man on a ledge about to commit suicide for all the wrong reasons, with too many loose ends left dangling in the breeze, suddenly, something happens that forces all choice to come into focus and be dealt with. I couldn't wait to continue listening between times.

Phenomenal

One of the best books I have ever listened to, made only better by Scott Brick’s narration! My hear nearly beat out of my chest during some parts! Way to build up the suspense and action!

Great book, worth a read

I passed this one up a few times while looking through audiobooks. The story seemed a bit "meh" from the description. After listening i can tell you that's not the case. The story moves quick and keeps you interested, the book starts with action and keeps a steady pace all the way through I've already recommended it to friends. If you're on the fence, do yourself a favor and give it a listen.

The narrator was good but the voices he uses for some of the women are a bit odd and breathy. Otherwise, well done.

Scott Brick kicks ass like always

I don't know anything about Gregg Huwitz or any of his writing - I do, however, know Scott Brick.

I'd listen to SB read the New York City phone book in Swahili

He makes the characters come alive! The emotion comes through and its more like having actors performing inside your head instead of just listening to a book.

Get this book. You won't regret it.

A Crazy Ride

Full of non-stop action and interesting characters “The Survivor” places you right in the middle of a mob land plot. The main character Nate, is flawed but overall has a good heart. The villan, Pavlo is hard core with a killing style I’ve never even heard of before. Between the two a pulse pounding journey begins which takes the reader from the depths of depression to the mountains of Afghanistan and through the back alleys of LA. Wonderfully written this story really take the listener along for a ride!

Scott Brick does great as usual with the narration!

The Survivor - a really good audiobook

I really liked this audiobook. The narrator was top notch, the story line just as good. I wouldn't hesitate recommending this book to anyone looking for action and romance, both equal in importance to the story.
