You can bet they aren't going to retire quietly. Shunned by the Soviets, isolated by Middle Eastern realignment, one cadre hits on a scheme to jump-start the war machine. It's brilliant in its simplicity. With a single act they bring the world to nuclear boil. Jack Ryan and Dan Murray sweat to defuse a cataclysmic response.

"Thoughts on The Sum of All Fears"

As a Company Representative covering a substantial part of Central Qld, I spend a lot of time in my Car!
Tom Clancy's Books not only deliver excellent stories but also good value in the Hours it takes to conclude them!
The Sum of All Fears has the usual Clancy ingredients, very precise descriptions & strong detail. I think that the Reader, Scott Brick, is perfectly suited to this style of narrative.
His voice & tone add an extra dimension to a long story which could easily become boring with a less accomplished Reader.
As with most long stories, I find it best digested in large chunks! Most of my journeys are 3 hours plus and this enables me to get really involved. I think a Book like this would be less satisfying if it were listened to in ten to twenty minute sessions. I will undoubtedly be working my way through all of Tom's work!

    "Love everything about this book"
Where does The Sum of All Fears rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

It's near the top of my list. I love the spy genre, with Tom Clancy and W.E.B. Griffin being my favorite authors. I love the way he explains what is happening during the nuclear explosion, and the way he weaves together multiple story lines. Classic Clancy.

What other book might you compare The Sum of All Fears to and why?

I'd compare it to any amazing mystery book that has been raped in film by Ben Affleck.

Which character – as performed by Scott Brick – was your favorite?

Jack Ryan, and John Clark get really distinctive voices in the book, and it adds an extra element of realism to it. I especially appreciate the way Mr. Brick addresses the female dialog. He doesn't go over the top, and gives them fairly neutral voicing.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When Jack refuses to second the Presidents launch order I was almost jumping up and down in my car.

"Well done thriller matched with great narration"

My first Clancy book and it clearly won't be my last. Excellent writing style. A well thought out plot. Kept me interested throughout the entire book. Also, Brick's narration matches the book perfectly. Clancy tends to go into detail at times, but Brick's narration makes it interesting. I have to admit, if a different narrator was chosen who could not pull off this type of book, this could have been a 3 star book. That does make me nervous going forward with Clancy's Ryan book series seeing the different narrators. I just have to cross my fingers.

"WOW! Awesome story. This guy can write."

The imagery is so vivid that after book you turn on the HDTV and wander why the picture is dull. My first TC book and worth the wait. One of my favorites of all time.

    "Hate the narrator"
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

I have read these books and wanted to try an audio version. I like the narrator for Clear and Present Danger but I just can't get over this narrators voice. He is one I will now avoid completely no matter how much l like the books.

    "Another Clancy Masterpiece"
What made the experience of listening to The Sum of All Fears the most enjoyable?

I couldn't stop listening. I drove extra slow to and from work, and still wanted to listen after I got home. My wife threatened to burn my headphones.

What does Scott Brick bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He is a masterful narrator. I think there were a couple of problems with editing the audio, but I will start buying books now just because he was the narrator.

"Officially now hooked on Tom Clancy"
What made the experience of listening to The Sum of All Fears the most enjoyable?

Sophisticated story-line. Dizzying array of characters and sub-plots. As if the the veil of secrecy shrouding the world of espionage has been pulled back for us to walk through and witness at will.

What does Scott Brick bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

One of the best narrations I've ever heard. Usually don't like it when the voice actor tries to "act out" the characters but in this case Scott does an incredible job. His accents and subtle changes of tone help the listener keep track of the characters - which there are many...

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Sum Of All Fears - Now Affleck Free.

"Scott Brick is great, story just good"
What made the experience of listening to The Sum of All Fears the most enjoyable?

The narrator is great and the characters, particularly the bad guys, are written well and you find yourself caring about them. The plot is a little unbelievable by Clancy standards, but he can be forgiven for that.

Have you listened to any of Scott Brick’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Brick is one of my favorite readers... very capable in all regards. No distractions from the story.

Would you consider the audio edition of The Sum of All Fears to be better than the print version?

since there is no way to mark books as read in the library I thought this might be a way to mark them

A linehaul truck driver that spends most of his driving time at night. FM and talk radio can only take you so far at night, so I have filled my night miles with audiobooks - it is a great fit!

"Makes you glad that you are not the President"
What made the experience of listening to The Sum of All Fears the most enjoyable?

This is a great book. It has multiple story lines and points of views. It shows just how complex world events are and how just a few assumptions on one person's thoughts can make things escalate beyond imagine.

    Any additional comments?

The last half of the book will have you sitting on the edge of your seat as events on the world stage fall into place..

Admittedly a big Tom Clancy fan but I found this book to be in my top three Clancy novels...very enjoyable even if the narration sounds slightly dated...

    "The Sum of all fears"

This narration held my attention for every spare minute I had to listen to it. Tom Clansey gets it out there for all of us to see; the reality that espionage and war can bring to the human soul, and the actions they are prepared to take. Worth listening to more than once.

"Hasn't stood the test of time"

This was a novel I really enjoyed as a youth however not now. Perhaps I have mellowed in the post cold war sun, but the right wing republican ideology is grating and the sexual encounters are very, Mills and Boon. On reflection this is nowhere near as good as the Non-Jack Ryan, Red Storm rising which given it's setting should have been more outdated but isn't.

Not worth the 30hrs of listening time.
