Publisher's summary

Against all odds we have made it into the last half of the 1990s. The Cold War looks solved, Arabs and Jews are talking, confrontation is on the wane. In this new harmony, one discord - what becomes of unemployed terrorists?

You can bet they aren't going to retire quietly. Shunned by the Soviets, isolated by Middle Eastern realignment, one cadre hits on a scheme to jump-start the war machine. It's brilliant in its simplicity. With a single act they bring the world to nuclear boil. Jack Ryan and Dan Murray sweat to defuse a cataclysmic response.

Intense to the point of nightmares.

Well written and expertly performed. I could not anticipate most of the turns of plot which made it all the more riveting.

I regret paying any heed to some reviewer who panned the book. Otherwise I would have read it 18 years ago. And I should have read it when published.

Great Book! Great Narrator!

An incredibly captivating book. The narrator did an excellent job of using distinguishing voices for all of the characters. I'm definitely going to go watch the movie again after listening to this great book!

Captivating throughout; Scott Brick great narrator

I like Clancy and have been jumping around in the series. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The usual good character development and tight plotting. Scott Brick is, hands down, the best Clancy narrator. I've waded through some of the others and truly, there is no comparison. I'd consider reading anything that he has narrated.

The Sum of All Fears

Outstanding, I read the book many years ago and listening to the narrator made it real. He was great, it also brought back memories of the sub bases in San Diego. I pictured the younger Harrison's Ford as the character Jack Ryan and I will be listening to the rest of the series. Side bar, I also luv Golden Retrievers,😊❤🐾

A Story and a Cautionary Tale

BLUF: This is great book and the narration is second to none. This story is still relatable and will remain so for a long time to come.

The story line of this book encompasses espionage, politics, and marriage quite well. It is through these three categories that I will describe this book.

Espionage: This book does a fantastic job of demonstrating the difficulties is obtaining and analyzing intelligence data. Throughout the book, Jack Ryan has to balance confirmed data against speculation. The book demonstrates many actual problems faced daily by the intelligence community.

Politics: Working at the White House is akin to living your life as a balloon in the Macy's Day Parade. Here are three examples of what I mean:

1. You sore over everyone and you have the best view. This also means that you are constant display for the entire world to see.
2. It takes many people to get you up there so you have such a broad view. If they do thier jobs correctly, your rise will seem effortless.
3. If the people below you cannot, efficiently, do thier jobs it will lead to a cascade effect that may effect how you do your job or how the world perceives you doing your job.

This book demonstrates this remarkably well.

Marriage: It covers some of the complexities of marriage quite well. The biggest lesson being that trust is a two way street. Open, honest, communication between partners will always help keep a marriage strong.

I simply love this book. Scott Brick is, as always, an impeccable narrator. The narration brings this story to life in ways that can be completely missed by other narrators (compare the sifferent narration styles in this series for yourself and you will see what I mean).

I think this book is wonderful, and the it is well worth checking out.
